Gallardo Track Setup
Discussion
Had a great day at Donington yesterday. Only 2nd time I've had the car on track.
With a few subtle tweaks courtesy of Mark and the team at Backdraft, it's really going well.
Firstly they replaced the standard brake fluid with Motul 660. The suspension geometry (which is fully adjustable on the Gallardo) has been set to sharpen the car up on track without compromising the road manners. Increased negative camber front and rear, touch of toe out at the front, increased caster, reduce the ride height a touch with more rake, corner weight it.
Replaced the engine oil (Mobil 1 as used by Lambo London) with Millers CFS 10w40. Finally I've replaced the standard Pirelli Corsa System with Corsa R's - standard front and a 305/30/19 rear.
It's now fantastically precise and neutral. The understeer of the standard car is gone. Turns in really nicely and holds a line on exit. Very stable under braking. Brakes (CCB's) now far less grabby with a more consistent pedal response. Traction is immense.
The car is improved on the road too. Great directional stability (nice flat underfloor helps I'm sure), sharper reflexes without feeling nervous. Really impressed with Backdraft. Their service levels and attention to detail are exceptional. The bill was less than half what a main dealer would have charged me.
So I'm wondering why I don't see more Gallardo's on track? I know these cars are relatively rare but come on boys and girls - get out there and drive them the only place you can safely explore the performance. The cars are tough, durable and very capable.
