I had the opportunity to get very close to a California yesterday and just didn't get it at all.
Take a screw driver to the badges and I believe you just couldn't guess who made it.
I think it looks kind of ok from the rear but, front, side etc just so miss-proportioned and fussy.
Am I alone, have Ferrari, sorry Pininfarina lost it?

I'm with you on that - I thought I was going to get tarred and feathered but I think stylingwise, the 599, 612 and California are horrible!

you are not alone at all.

after countless ferrari's i moved to the dark side because i dont think any current ferrari can be classed as beautiful or even cohesively designed.

+1. I parked the LP560 next to a Californicator, it was nice sitting in the shade of the hulk

I think the 599 is "ok" but is surprisingly big when you get close to it

Completely agree, the styling on the F430 was very lazy...

I believe the sentences were unconnected! He parked next to a Cali and ALSO he thinks the 599 is large.

I like it.

I haven't seen one in the metal, but from pics I think it's nice.

The rear quarter is a bit bulky but it's a better effort that the 612 and 430 and more desirable than it's competitors.

The 599 is lovely apart from the horrid headlight design which ruins the front shape.

I'm in two minds about the California. On the one one hand it looks awkward from some angles - especially front three quarters when the roof is down. With the roof up I think it's a stunning coupe and I like the "mass" of it. Of course the winning part is the fact it's a coupe AND an open top. In black I think it looks sensational!

Next to a Gallardo, of course it looks ugly. But you either have to buy a coupe or a spyder or both to get the same package. From that POV the California is a very compelling proposition. It would make a fabulous companion for a trip to the South of France!

If they dropped to around £100K I would seriously consider one.

I'm screwed really. I started my car budget for August at around £60K. It's now around £100K. I love the LP560 like there is no tomorrow - especially the spyder. As I only want to buy one car the California seems a great option too! I am truly going to be so much poorer in August.... but happier. But what the feck do I go for?????

Bloody cars.. I hate loving them wink

In my typical contradictory way, I like all the modern Ferrari's apart from the 355 and 456, which I think are a bit bland. smile

i didnt like the 430 when i first saw it,
i also didnt like the 599 and 612...

however now i do. it's taken a while but i now 'get it'

it's not pretty styling but there is something purposeful and dynamic about the design.

the 355 was the last 'pretty' ferrari and i do think they should be good looking cars but design seems to have moved on from pure beauty of the form.

IMO the F430 is fairly dull; the 599 is stunning and huge; and I want to see a California up close before making a final judgment but I do think it looks quite nice.

My dilemma is that I am, by nature, quite conservative but with moments of reckless abandonment. I have never spent more than £50K on a car. Just thinking of an LP560 Spyder makes me go weak at the knees BUT then I think "Oh Gary, that's just stupid. Spending £150K on a car is madness". When I am back full time in the UK in August I'm going to be in one hell of a dilemma!!!!

I agree, I'm not a fan of the California. It just doesn't do it for me, it's too boring. I also agree about no modern Ferrari being beautiful. I like the 599, but everything else isn't that nice. Come on Ferrari make another testarossa or F355 they were stunning!!!!
