For the last 7 yrs there has been a broken old black 308 a few miles from me.
It looks like a shell only.

It would be cheaper to buy a decent 308 that to buy a Ferrari engine for it.

Have people ever put anything else in a 308?

Something cheap and nasty.

I would look at the viability of an Alfa V6 in one.... Not done it, just a thought. I think there is a guy in the States putting a Ferrari V12 in one!

Why would they? As Enzo said, "you buy the engine, the rest of the car comes free".

Make a cool sculpture for the garden though smile

For the time being this is all a pipe dream, its just that having seen it there for 7 years, it is likely to be there for another 7 years.

I was thinking more like an NSX engine/gear box - as it offers a touch more power than the original Ferrari engine and would cost less to maintain.

ooh, the irony of the opportunity to put an MR2 engine in there ( the turbo perhaps!)

I like that! After the irony has worn away though, it would still sound sh*t.

Ferrari engine would be my first choice...

Failing that and finance permitting, Alfa GTA V6 would be my second choice...

Although, I would be tempted by the NSX engine/ 'box combo!

I know a few guys have whacked Audi V8's into Esprits (hmmm or was it a V6?) Solid lump. Short Transaxle iirc - space will be a major issue with the original engine transversely mounted.

Just make sure yuo don't get a diesel by mistake winkhehe

Why not go the whole hog and put an MR2 body kit on it and sell it as a replica MR2.

I daydreamed a similar plan when I saw a 308 with engine damage on ebay a while back....

Alfa v6 3.0 on carbs and use the alfa transaxle - a reasonable 164 is under £1K. Nice and simple, sounds lovely, about 210bhp - more than a 308GTBi.

Or better still save up all the money it would cost for all the other bits and bobs a project like this would cost and buy a 308 in good shape. Love the irony of the MR2 suggestion!
