Hey guys,

I'm looking to get myself a supercar in the very near future and am torn between a f360 or a 996tt. The porsche is widely regarded as being an everyday supercar, but what about the ferrari? What are it's limitations when compared to normal everyday cars? I'll be doing a commute of 10 miles in one direction and ofcourse take it to the shops and things like that.

Is it the size, the reliability, the running costs, the ground clearance (ie for speedbumps) or just the fact that it's a ferrari and gets too much attention that stops it being regarded as a car which can be used everyday compared to the Porsche.

Cheers

hi mate...i had a 996TT cab for about a year but always had an itch for the 360, which i know have and wished i didn't bother with the 996TT. Don't get me wrong, its a super car BUT it doesnt have any supercar presence. I went for the 996TT thinking it was more practical and would be easier to get along with daily etc. BUT the TT just doesnt satisfy like the 360 in an overall sense....The 360 gives me goosebumps everytime i start the engine and it sounds fantastic (if you need sound then the 996TT is completely and utterly pants - even if its a cabrio). In terms of everyday use, i know many people who use the 360 daily and have no issues. I use mine about 3 times a week. If its a choice between the 2 then defo go for the 360 - depn will prob also be less than the porker.

comparing a ferrari with a porsche is like comparing art with white goods. no matter how good looking a microwave is, you're never gonna hang one on your living room wall. however, the ferrari is like a fine oil painting that just happens to be able to cook stuff as well.

the analogy translates even further. I accept that everyone should have a microwave. hell - i even think they should have a GT3RS microwave. but you only really need 1. whereas the artwork is something you can have a portfolio of and just leave scattered around your estate - even if you only drive them each once a year.

Hi, I have a manual 360 spider which I use everyday as my main (and only) drive. Have done 8k miles in almost exactly a year. Had a 996 C4S prior. The Fcar is a perfect everyday drive around London and totally reliable. Go for it.

Hi. I ran a 996C4S and a 360 simultaneously for almost three years in the north of Scotland. The 360 is fine for everyday use, although it was a little tricky in the snow and ice (one sweaty snow-journey comes to mind). During that time it never missed a beat, only requiring servicing and tyres. Plenty tyres...
Go for it - it's much more exciting than than the 911. Only downside is that it is more tiring to drive distances when you're not in the mood, whispering to you gently all the time "if you don't pay attention, i kill you!!"

As you said the 911 is definitely more of an everyday car, where as the Ferrari isn't. I've got a F355 and although it's easy to use, visibility good, ground clearance is ok, it still isn't really an everyday car. The problem is, although a modern Ferrari's are easy to live with, I still wouldn't have it as my only car. For example, you can't take it into many multi-story car parks (ground clearance is often an issue)and you have to be careful where you leave it as there is always some jealous tw*t who will want to scratch it. I think the fact that it's a Ferrari and gets so much attenetion is what stops it being regarded as an everyday car.
As for running costs a Ferrari is about twice that of a Porshce, my 911 costs me about £400 to service every 20k or 2 years, where as the Ferrari is every 7k or once a year,a and I think it's about £700.

If I were you I would go test drive both and see which one you like best. Also, you MUST buy which one your heart wants. Now I know that sounds a bit cheesy, but it's true, if you don't you will regret it. If you were planning it to be your only car it may be worth buying a cheap little runabout, for those days when you can't take the Fezza.

Hope that helps and good luck with your search. Keep us posted on how you get on.

Whilst the car is very useable (except with a tubi where it is too loud boomy on a trailing throttle in town)..its the idiots around you that make it hard. You cant really leave these cars in standard car parking spaces as they are massively wide and so get dinks etc. I have also seen a kid picking up a brick to lob at mine as I drove past one day and a neighbour who also had a 360 did actually have 2-3 bricks thrown at his. I now live in the Middle East where such things dont happen...but it happens to be 44 deg C today..so perhaps a bit too warm for a Ferrari on a daily basis!

Cheers guys, my heart definately wants a 360, but it's my head saying the 996tt as it does blend in a bit more and also I am relatively young (24) and don't know if I deserve to drive a ferari yet. I'm moving to Newcastle from Scotland for a new job and do't want to be known as that "guy with the ferrari." I went to view a 360 in the flesh today (haven't seen one for a while) and just looking at it gave me goosebumps. I was struck at how wide and long it is.

One thing which is making me justify getting the f360 is the depreciation of the car; I've done some quick calculations and feel in the long run it would be cheaper for me to run the ferrari as opposed to the porsche due to the depreciation being less - there I'm starting to justify it already! I mean people can easily spend £35k+ on a decentish loaded audi tt/a5 which will drop about 7k a year. Hopefully the ferrari will only drop 3k or so per year which can go towards the extra running costs/services.

I'm thinking of buying maybe in Feb/March next year which I realise is a long way away, but want to get settled into my new job AND turn 25 (for insurance purposes.)

I will definately consider getting a cheap runaround too if I go down the ferrari route.

Cheers

Noted...don't buy a ferrari if you live in a council estate!
Just kidding
