What next..... 355,360?...undecided....
Discussion
Hi people, I currently have a 1991 Ferrari 348ts in beautiful condition (Im very fussy) and have just started throwing the idea around for changing it....but what to??? 355 or 360, really wanting to stick with a Ferrari and just upgrade, but I do love my 348, so really unsure about going to a more mass produced model. Also unsure of manual/F1 box - what to go for, whats more desirable - I`ve always liked manuals, but could be tempted. So really just wanted peoples opinions - suggestions as the 355 and 360 are not that different price wise anymore. Budget wise, depending on what I get for mine will look at cars upto 40-45k ish max. Would love everyones thoughts or if they think I should stick with my loved 348....
Really - 360 would be ropey for 45k, interesting. Would a 355 be a big step forward to my current car to warrent the money? Ive driven one but not for any length of time - so havent lived with one, so not sure how much of a difference it would be to own compared to mine - thanks for the input though people, always nice to hear from other Ferrari owners about their opinions. Really torn on the F1 box thing though, always loved manuals - but a change might be good.
where abouts are u based/?? u cud take a spin in mine if u want if ur in the northwest, one of the main diffs wud be power steering?? bigger engine is it??i love the look of 348s but power steering was a big deal to me,i had a 50k budget ish but fell in love with he silver 355 ive got now, just so diffrent and noticably stands out from red ones,360s dont appeal tome,im looking at a 599 or430 spider at the minute when i get back home to go with the 355,the f1 box is diffrent as its still a manual car but with f1 paddles hence why its not instant,u just need to time it righton the changes
Would not agree that a 360 for £45k needs to be ropey big selection about at this price.
Dependant on what you want out of the car a really tidy F355 for that money would be nice to have I miss my F355 but not my 348. See Mark's thread on his F355 F1 Spider purchase recently to replace (eventually) his 599.

Got to agree with Neil-f.It is all about sensible pricing people generally ask far too much for their cars so sensibly priced ones are classed as rough...not always the case.
My 360 modena is just about to go up for sale at 47000gbp.
It is a 2002 Modena in rosso corsa with crema leather, manual with 31k miles, scuderia shields, leather headlining, red calipers. It is in A1 condition. Just had it's major 31250 service and had a few little bits rectified. In the past 2 years it has had front and rear ball joints attended to,rear anti rollbar and bushes renewed and is fitted with new front pads and tyres all round.A new clutch was fitted 8k miles ago.
It is immaculate as it is machine polished the interior is clean and unmarked......the local dealer said that on sale or return they would be asking 49995 as it is ready to go and needs nothing doing to it.
I am loathed to part with it but house extension forces my hand.

yes there are good cars out there to behad a good prices but its all down to opinion,i saw 360s at 32-35-38k and there were light blue coloured and all had patchy history, the 355 IMOP is only going to go up in value,i paid 31-32 for mine where as 360s i reckon will again bottom out at 32-35 ish,the CS will stay high and desirable, 360s were the first of the mass produced and so there is alot more of them out there
I think if I were to get a F355 it would be a manual and maybe consider the F1 box if I looked at a 360, my concern with the F355 was really would it be a big enough step forward, I know its an awesome car, dont get me wrong, but enough of a difference? Im not against the non power steering of mine, gives nice feedback, just makes parking a little fun!! Im down in the south but thank you for the offer of a drive.
I just sold my F355. Rosso/Crema, manual, tubi, decat, challenge grill, 3 owners from new, full service history from new, a pampered, fantastic looking, sounding and driving car and it sold for around 33k. I think the notion that you need to spend 40/45k on a good 355 is a bit misleading.
I have replaced it with a 360 Spider and it is fair to say they are very different. Someone else wrote on here that the 360 is the better car and the 355 is the better Ferrari and that probably has a ring of truth to it. Don't think it takes anything away from the 360 but just highlights how good the 355 is. Having spent far too long browsing the classifieds before buying my car I think there are nice cars in the 40/45k bracket as long as they fall into what you want in terms of age/colour/history/mileage etc. IMHO once you start being fussy and looking for specific desireable cars like taaffys car above then you see the price creeping up towards the 50k mark and obviously higher.

Was about to mention this car having seen the thread on CS. If the condition is as described (which I am sure it is) then its proof that a decent 360 can be had at the lower end of the price bracket. The spec is right and as mentioned, its ready to go. A hell of a lot of car for the (sensibly priced) money IMO.My 360 modena is just about to go up for sale at 47000gbp.

Thats not to say that, as has been mentioned, there won't be a lot of dogs out there and a lot of over priced dreamers.

Wished I knew about you're car before today for that price I would have took it straight off your hands, how long did you have it and how much did you spend running it?
If you mean my F355, had it just over two and a half years, did 7.5k miles, needed a biggie engine out belt service in the 1st year at around £1500 and an annual service the following year at £600ish plus 2 rear tyres.... plus petrol. Not bad really. The only thing I would add to this discussion is that they are all getting on a bit now. Things can and do go wrong with both cars (and are well documented).
To my mind, get one that has been and is being used regularly, and has had all the niggly bits replaced as and when needed. A garage queen that looks pretty may well cost you more than something that looks a bit stone chipped (like mine
) but that has been used, serviced and upgraded continually.
A rotary polish or front end spray job (no rude comments) are peanuts compared to other things.
Just my 2c worth.
