Just been down to Spain in my F430 Spider!! left the UK with a new set of Pirreli P Zeros on the rear, on my return 20 days later, have discovered I need a new set, they are completely scrubbed!;-( as the Pirreli's are £520-00 a pair and have only lasted twenty days it would now be tempting to fit a pair of Falcon FK452 only £302-00 a pair! the Question would be to fellow piston head members, Would the Falcons noticeably interfere with the handling? Has anyone else given these tyres a try on there Ferrari?

Thanks
Carlos

I'm going to follow this thread with interest. I've no direct experience with rubber on F cars but I will make a couple of points.

The Falkens are directional, and the Pirellis are Asymmetric. I also suspect they'll have a very different internal construction, as they were built to do different jobs. If you're swapping to such a drastically different tyre on the rear, think about what you're matching it on the front. Giving yourself front bias for grip means more oversteer.

You say the rears are shot. Are you surprised by this? Spirited driving or has the rear gone out of alignment?

Looking forward to other, more informed answers. I suspect the rear of a 430 is the last place you want to be going for the budget option though.

I echo jon's comments on this - not sure I would be thinking about scrimping on the only part of the car that has contact with the road! And for the sake of £100 a corner, it's just not a lot to think about.

I would be more concerned with how you scrubbed out a pair in 20 days?!?!?!

I'd give them a go and see what you think.
Its not a £20 re-tread that is likely to explode and throw you into a hedge.
If you don't like it, you've spent £300 and postponed buying some more expensive rubber. If you do like it or can't tell the difference, then everyone's a winner.

On a spearate note, 20 days is daft unless you are driving the nuts off it, so get your alighnment checked.

I read somewhere that the Mattel e-diff settings were designed and tested with specific tyres only?

I think that is so people keep heading back to the dealer wink. You can get P-Zero Rosso's for a 430 from Kwik-Fit (if you have a business account) for under £200 per corner.

I know that Ferrari have recommeded both Bridgestone and Pirelli for the 430's, so it can't make that much difference.

20 days for a set of tyres though...... eek Where have they worn?

More to the point how many miles did you do? I managed to eek 6k out of a pair of P Zero's on the back of mine and thought that was bad!

I remember some guy here with an EVO VI, that only used it to drive rally style, and he still got 5000km (3100 miles) out of them... 2500 sounds like lots of serious drifting and burnouts going on smile

Just a general comment.
If you are driving the car so hard that the rears are only lasting 2500 miles then you need to buy the very best tyres you can afford!

Never a truer word spoken! I find it incredible that anyone would spend £100K on a car and scrimp on the only part of the car that keeps you on the black stuff!!!

Even heavily abused hire cars (430's) will do 6000 on a set or rears, so you really have been hooking them up!

I have Toyo T1-R's on my 360 and much prefer them to the factory fitment Pirelli P-Zeros.

Green flag repatriated the car back from Alicanti as I think I may have done a clutch as well???? car landed back in Bournemouth today so should know more as the week goes on.

Think I will not be such a cheep skate & put the P Zeros on & drive a little slower.... I fitted a new clutch & fly wheel in December 2008!! previously owned a 997 Turbo for 18 monthes & other than tyre changes didn't spend a penny! would I go back to a 997 Turbo?????????????????????????

No way! it's only Ferraris for me from now on :-)

I put the T1-Rs on my 360 also and felt they were immediately better than the P-zeros
