Help.

Been going through this for past few weeks and not sure which way to go. I need to replace my 997 by Nov ( I hate Porsche new warranty policy and not willing to give them another £1400). I need a car to do 10 miles to work down country lanes and about 8,000 a year as well as usual weekend trips to shops and T5 short stay parking. I have thought about the R8 v10 and Gen 2 Porsche GT3 but i am now too late in ordering to get a car for Nov. Next on the list are Ferrari or Lamborghini but will these give the reliability and practicality i need and will i get killed on depreciation/service costs for doing a relative high milage. Budget max £100K

Thanks

Had a 4200 for a couple of years and I loved it but more a GT than a sports car. Same with all in the range.

Well Gallardos are pretty reliable, steering is light and so is the clutch (that is if you are one of the few people remaining who want a manual car) and if speced with front lifting system and reversing camera are easy to live with. The only problem is that it does draw A LOT more attention than a Porsche, which obviously limits where you can park it etc. If you can live with that the I'd go for it.

As for the 430, can't really comment, although I'm sure someone will be along soon who can.

Good luck with you search, whatever you buy.

I have heard very very good reports about the new R8 V10 - there was one advertised in the Sunday Times at the weekend at a discount to list and immediate delivery.

(What's the waiting list on the GT3 ?)

You wont find a worthy/suitable replacement for the 997 Turbo.

Trust me, I have tried pretty much everything....seven 996/997's (inc 3 Turbo's) in 6 years has proved to me that you always end up going back to them, no matter how hard you try not to smile

http://pistonheads.co.uk/sales/1128981.htm one of these for the weekends
and one of these for in the week http://pistonheads.co.uk/sales/1125983.htm

All bases covered and still cheaper to run combined than a lot of exotica.

jobs a good un.

There are normally a few 430s and Gallardos parked at the terminal 5 carpark so you shouldn't have a problem leaving it there

You dont like the thought of paying Porsche £1400 a year for a water tight warranty BUT are considering a Lamborghini or Ferrari? Am i missing something here - You wont know whats hit you with running costs of either a Gallardo or F430 if you are questioning Porsches £1400 a year warranty. I think Ferrari do a "Power Warranty", £2k+ a year i think. Lamborghini as far as i know do not do a used car warranty yet and bare in mind that there are not many independants that actually know there way around them.

Audi R8 is the only other supercar? that does everything a Porsche can do with rock solid reliability and reasonable running costs. New Nissan GTR also worth at least a test drive.

I'd just take the hit on the warranty or an Aston Martin DBS / 430 / Maserati GT

Porsche's warranty is now the WORST of all sports car makers. I'd rather have a Ferrari or Lamborghini one and that's saying something. The Germans don't actually honour anything... pr1cks.
Porsche still build (relatively) great cars but their service is a disgrace. Ferraris 4 year manufacturers is an incredible statement of confidence. Porsche's 2 year one is bad joke.

Back on topic. By an 08 430 coupe. Warranty till 2012 and it's a cruiser you can use everyday.

+100

1. Ferrari F430 rocks! Amazing drive and amazing noise - aural pleasure you will never get from a Porsche!
2. The Warranty is excellent too.
3. No brainer dude, ditch the Porsche - there actually is a substitute.

Mosi is right. My GT2 is superb, but even now am looking for a Turbo as a daily car. Drove a 599 this week, and DBS, but for me (the specialness of the Ferrari and Aston aside), the Turbo ticks more boxes than any other single car

As others have said the 7t is the best all rounder. The new warranty is more of a headache, but should only really cause issue if you have mods?

As said the main other two cars are the F430 and Gallardo, which have their own issues but will inevitably cost more than the 7t to run, also the G is smaller inside. I've also heard good things about the F warranty but not sure if they cover if you mod the car.

Agree with both Mosi and Murcielago. 7tt had to replace , great car, not so good warranty. can only think of 7gt3 ? gallardo and ferrari both slower are they not ?
