2009 Starlight children's charity day - 20 Aug, Winchester
Discussion
DAY SUSPENDED - PLEASE SEE POST ON P.2!
Last year a number of PHers kindly brought their sports and supercars down to a very sunny Popham airfield to provide rides to seriously and terminally ill children as part of the Starlight Children's charity "Up Up and Away" day. Details of last year's event, and some pictures, can be found here:
http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...
This year the event will be held on Thursday 20th August, again at Popham, just off the A303/M3 interchange near Winchester, Hants, from around 10am to 5pm. The plan is to meet at the Little Chef on the A303 at 10am.
The format will be the same as last year, meaning that we would need around 20 cars for giving passenger laps around the (grass) airfield. This is relatively low speed, and is not a "track" or "airfield" day as such, but still great fun and very rewarding. Rather than the more usual charity days, the Starlight day does not raise money for the charity, but instead provides a welcome escape from hospitals and treatment for the children, their siblings and their parents.
Last year's event was a huge success for the charity, and they were very grateful for the kind generosity of owners of some fabulous cars. I think it's also fair to say that those of us driving also had a great day! We had some superb cars, from Caterhams, TVRs and Elises, through to a few Ferraris, a Diablo roadster (thanks John!) and a Carrera GT. It would be great to match (or better) that turnout. If you would rather just put your car on display, rather than doing rides, that would also be great.
I shall be e-mailing those who came last year directly to see if they are willing to come down again. If anyone would be interested in helping, please reply here or send me a PM via my profile. If anyone has any questions, please feel free to ask.
Thank you all in advance.
Will

Yep been invited by Dick at Popham.
The HA have agreed we can attend the whole day this time, looking forward to it. It was a great day for the kids etc.
Just got to decide which HATO mobile to bring along. And no giving me any abuse I know what you Pistonheads are like!
No Monaro this year.
Will I have emailed you.

Yep Lee, no problem - I'll put up the list of cars (that I know about - someone else is also organising some cars) a bit nearer the time (a few are only "maybes" at the moment).
Ta! Nice to know what interesting tin we'll be able to ogle.Edited by will_ on Friday 17th July 08:31
Unfortunately I am overseas but will try to organise the 996 turbo and the GT. It was a great event last year and the rewards of smilling faces and the buzz from all the action (planes, helicopters and all sorts of land vehicles) made it a great day out. To anyone thinking about attending- go for it- its a great way of giving back.
