Engine Oil for a Gallardo
Discussion
I'm sure this must have been discussed before but doing a search brought up little.
What oil to people tend to prefer use on the V10?
From previous cars I've always used Motul 300V for my other car which has proved to be very good.
Reason I ask is that I always supply my own oil as generally speaking Dealers won't use good quality oils.
And the fact that they charge you twice as much as what you can buy it for locally or over the internet.
Was thinking of using Motul 300V Competition 15w50.
Thanks,
Chris

ps : am i the only person who thinks that the agip brew smells
Having just had a service, I now have an enginefull of Mobil 1.ps : am i the only person who thinks that the agip brew smells

Right on the point of setting out for Halfords, I've found there are several varieties of it:
* Mobil 1 ESP 5W-30 fully synthetic motor oil
* Mobil 1 0W-40 advanced performance synthetic engine oil
* Mobil 1 15W-50 advanced performance synthetic engine oil
and for all I know, there may be others as well.
None of the above seems to have a viscosity specification that exactly matches any of the ones mentioned in the car handbook, so can anyone say which one I'm meant to get?
Meanwhile, I will go and give the Agip Tecsint a sniff.

I'd have a look around in various forums regarding Mobil 1.
Heard some bad stories, admittedly around turbo charged engines letting go and above oil alegedly being the common denominator.
Think it's 5w40 you want.
Firstly, the most important thing is the viscosity- change from that suggested by the manufacturer at your peril.
When i had mine the suggested viscosity was 5/40 so motul 300v or slkolene pro s 5/40 would be fine. I would never go to a 0 rated oil.
Shel helix ultra is a hydrcracked oil-no where near the standard of the above or mobil 1.
It interesting to see some posters that give negative reports of mobil one but only good regarding Helix ultra!! when by ANY yardstick M1 is better.
Having said that I would not want mobil one in it.

Couldn't agree more. Motul 300V in mine. Recommended a while ago by a F1 Maclaren mechanic. When I asked don't use Mobil 1 then, he replied, "we would never put that sWhen i had mine the suggested viscosity was 5/40 so motul 300v or slkolene pro s 5/40 would be fine. t in our cars"! So just because a team endorses a brand doesn't mean they use it themselves! lolChrisFitz said:

interesting as Shell Ultra Helix is what I have in mine and also what Maranello put in my 355 when I owned itWhen i had mine the suggested viscosity was 5/40 so motul 300v or slkolene pro s 5/40 would be fine. I would never go to a 0 rated oil.

yes indeed, when I had my 355 helix ultra was used- But thats because ferrari had a deal with Shell for lubricants and at one time Agip for lambo- But the real fact is that helix Ultra is right at the low end of quality oils and a quick call to Opie oils will confirm there are FAR better choices.5/40 is the choice for both of these models ( or it was when i had mine) I would never use a 0 rated oil

Just wondered if anybody knows what Oil Lambo are now recomending ? My user book says AGIP SINT 2000 5W 40 although I suspect it wont be so easy to get hold of.
Also just to avoid a school boy error the oil does fill up down the same spout that the dipstick is located , correct ?
