Im looking to purchase a Gallardo soon, preferable a Supperleggera, and wanted to get an idea of the general running costs. I know it seems like an odd question to be asking about running costs for such an expensive car but its better I go in to this knowing what Im in for.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I brought one 2 weeks ago 04reg..- so far, only the cost of petrol...oh, and insurance.

I hear annual service will cost between 1K-2K depending on whether its minor or major (alternate years), a new clutch will cost 3.2K - mine has 18K miles on the clock and still on the original clutch so I have prepared for one of those purchases (since my wife rides the clutch like she rides....).
I havent found it too thirsty yet - mind you I used to drive a Cayenne - so its all relative!
New tyres circa £350 a pair...

14mpg
1k for my first, minor, service
1k for insurance
330 for each pirelli
all totally insignificant compared to depreciation
and worth every penny biggrin

I'm getting 18mpg in mine, but reckon it'd be 20 if I done a few more miles.

No idea about running costs, but I always keep my eyes peeled around here. When the time comes to getting one I'll know everything smile

I have heard various numbers, depending on whether its an e-gear or manual, and how you drive it.
Reading other forums, i hear people still on their first clutch after 50K miles...

HI

Buy one and put the biggest smile on your face ever!!!!
If you can, ignore the dealers for servicing, they will charge you a fortune and give you second rate service. I paid just short of 2K for a 30,000 mile service including parts. Its a big service, dealer wanted double that.

Elephant gave me the best quote on insurance at £750 for 8000 miles limited mileage. Im on the second clutch and have 72% remaining according to the last snap test. Stop start motoring with an E-Gear is not a good idea unless you put it into neutral before coming to a complete stop and engaging again just before you pull away. Sitting stationary with 1st gear engaged will wear the clutch quickly.

I had an oil pump pack up on me and the resulting repair cost 3K. I decided to fork out 2K for a warranty wise warranty which is basically a nose to tail cover including tyres. I get 22 mpg but i always do long motorway type journeys. 3500-3800 rpm for sustained cruise is a good balance between noise, mpg and speed. Try to get a 55/06 reg or later if you can. The oil needs checking regularly and it does consume more than other family type cars and it needs to be warmed up before you get heavy with the right foot. Its definitely worth buying a battery conditioner as well. The best value tyres i found were from a company in Camberley whose name escapes me now but were better value that mitchel dever tyres. Keep it clean and enjoy the hell out of it. I get mine serviced by MP Supercars in East Lothian and its based in the south of England. It really is that important to get it serviced by good people. Plus its a great drive also.

Good luck and all the best.

And the 30K Service??? Quote from dealer is PLUS PARTS PLUS VAT!

I know there are very good independents closer to me but ive been very happy with the service and the Old Man lives half way so i get to kill 2 birds with one stone but if you are even close to East Lothian, i would highly recommend chatting to the boys up there. They were able to put right the stuff the dealer up there couldnt.

30k service is exactly the same service as the 15k service.

£1995 is fully inclusive of parts, labour and VAT. Its exactly what I paid.

I paid virtually the same for the 15k one at LHW. The annual done at Lambo London this year was £1k... £200 more than the indies i called.. and i'll pay £200 for the stamp. I would however take it to an indie if it needed work, as i think they on the whole do a better job.

Hmmmmm

My handbook shows there are some additional items between a 15k and 30k inspection but on balance not too much more but probably would require more (a couple???) of man hours but now im even happier in my beliefs that the dealers will never get a penny of my money because the quote i had from the dealer in Edinburgh was £2,900 for a 30k service whereas my invoice from MP Supercars reads

Work Description

30,000 mile service incluing brake bleed with racing blue brake fluid
Repaired tow hook
Replaced rear high level brake light unit
Supplied 2 tyre inflator kits
Replaced rear brake pads
fitted parking sensor (honest plod its a parking sensor) :-)
Resecured o/s exhaust tailpipe trim
Supplied 2 Litres of oil for top up
Checked E gear settings

I had previously negotiated a deal with these chaps, something a dealer would never do and i got change from £1,700. Not only that, their customer service was exceptional and i had the peace of mind knowing that i did not have newbies earning £15 per hour working on the car. It comes down to personal choice obviously but i have had 2 bad experiences dealing with the dealers that i just cant stand the arrogance they display.

Anyway, Happy Motoring
