I've seen the videos on youtube of Gallardos on fire and then when Clarkson and Co spoke about it on Top Gear, but am I just really lucky because I've never had mine suddenly burst into flames, nor have I had any major problems with it.

E25? isnt that a medicated moisturising lotion?

Yes, read the article...yes,lamborghini's are prone to a bit of fire- but that just adds to the excitement when you drive it ...and when you renew the car insurance.

It's very clever - the guy who writes it is Chirag Shah who owns E25.

My heart bleeds.

Now read between the lines. The allegation is principally that Lamborghinis are "not fit for purpose"; that purpose apparently being rental cars. I'm inclined to agree.

What constitutes "a breakdown"? The renters don't know the car, they are unable to make a judgment call on a fault in the way an owner does. My own experience of Audi-generation V12 Lamborghinis is that they throw engine warning lights from time to time. I understand the V10s can be prone to this too. I know, from experience, that these warnings are typically damp (from weather/jet washing) in a coil pack. They invariably go out when the moisture evaporates. But, run as a rental car, would you risk telling a punter to just drive on and see what happens when they have no idea what to look/listen for? And does the punter fancy doing that having left a hefty pre-authorised credit card deposit? Of course not! So... that's a "breakdown". You can also trip an engine light by revving the engine the moment it fires because the ECU expects to sort out its own enrichment without a flood of extra gas from the driver's "listen to this mate" antics.

On the 560-4, E25 got a new replacement car after 3 months. Most owners would appreciate that - the first car was a rogue, Lamborghini replaced it. So a punter subsequently trashed it? That's the risk you run letting any old Joe with a credit card smoke about in a 200mph supercar. Whose fault were the dented bonnets? Lamborghini's or the carrier's? If you were a dealer, would you provide a 'like for like' replacement to a rental company?? I bloody wouldn't! For a private customer on the other hand, I'm sure an arrangement could have been possible to reduce the frustration.

As for the G-Spyder, there are two ways of reading into the "everyone knows they catch fire". How about, as a professional car supplying business, you inspect the fuel/oil lines on a regular basis, given that it's "common YouTube knowledge"?

In any case, frankly, if rental companies shun Lamborghinis I really don't think it's a bad thing for the marque. Rental companies slating the marque for not supporting their marginal business models...? I don't think it's that hard to see through the whining. Got to laugh at the list of alternatives at the end of the blog - reckon he'll be better off with any of them? rofl

Read Simon George's EVO blogs - his firm's been beating the crap out of Murciélagos and Gallardos (in a controlled environment) for intergalactic mileages over several years.

My old Lamborghini has never spontaneously burst into flames either. Has made nice long exhaust flames on occasion though! wink

I know a chap with a Miura that hadn't had one of the chokes on one of his triple choke carbs properly cleaned which set on fire in heavy traffic last year. Once the traffic cleared he put the fire out using some hearty full bore acceleration with an attitude setting also known as 'add gung-ho gumption with no whinging like a noncey boy in floozy-wear'

but lets see...

There are quite a lot of Gallardos, (only relatively speaking of course), with a few incidents of mislocated lubricant tubing (or similar) causing fires somehow - surely easily prevented with a check and any required action by proper servicing agents.

Not easily checked and prevented when users have no real interest in the actual car they are hiring out or actually driving and which due to a lack of proper maintenance may have become very dangerous. Not that big a deal if the car was one of a fleet of Fords or Nissans but a bit more problematical with a Lamborghini. Did the hirecar people think they could get away with treating them like Micras or Fiestas? What part of 'not really for use by any dumb knobhead' did they not understand?

Incidence of poor service to a hirecar business who had/has an onscreen advert saying they only had any other cars to make the Lamborghinis they had look even better (or some twaddle like that) is not too good obviously. The actual reasons for that poor service might be quite simple though, judging by a number of factors that may have applied.

The importers might have had a beef with hirecar business because not enough of the hirecars were bought be the direct route from them, the official importers, and one or two were perhaps bought in a 'reversing sideways up and under with a triple salko (sp?) into ownership' manner yet the hirecar company still expected to get 'proper' customer service...

Can anybody else smell the slight whiff of sour grapes or else hear the grating sounds of the wrecker about his 'practices'?

And, in the interests of deterring as many numpties and ill-informed persons as possible - yes indeed, Lamborghinis are obviously rubbish - they don't include an automatic fekkin' idiot filtering device with hilfwat (sic) blocking system...

rotate

eta think the Boss and me are broadly in agreement - good evening Phil.

Surely the fact that they are well known to catch fire is a pretty big black mark on the car?

I appreciate that it being a Lamborghini it catches more attention than say a Ford Focus being on fire, but surely it is far too common an occurence to be classed as Italian character?

If I had the means to buy one it wouldn't put me off though.

Dave!

I've had less problems with my 17 year old Lamborghini biggrin
A mate is on his third Lambo, does about 20.000km a year in them without issues, and doesn't drive slow either...

Lambos occasionally catch fire. So do Ferraris, McLarens, TVRs and Porsche Carrera GTs (to name but a few). Put it this way - when you've got a honking big engine in a small bay which is made of lightweight materials that aren't as heat conductive as steel, the margin for error may be a bit smaller than when pootling around in your big tin box with a four cylinder lump somewhere deep down inside a comparatively huge engine bay.

I've had to deal with three Range Rover's on fire this year alone, but they didn't even make the local newspapers. The F360 the went up in flames at the Newbury Showground at the Ferrari "fun" day did.

It just sensationalist journalism due to the nature of the car, accept it as a compliment that Lamborghini's are held in such high regard that the press want to try to knock them off the top spot.
