Am looking at two gallardo e-gears one a 2005 and 2006. I am aware of the differences between the 2 years but there is nearly £10k difference between the two.

I have been informed that unpluging the exhaust on the 06 version makes a huge difference to the exhaust sound. My question is will this trigger off the CEL light?

Also that is does not make too much difference on the 05, has anyone done this to their 05 model?

The 10k will be worth it !
On the 05 car the valves make no difference to sound, on an 06 it will open the valves perminently and at lower revs make more noise but will be the same over 3500rpm.
The noise with the valves open is just loud but not a nice sound, if you want NICE and loud you need to de-cat Tubi

You will be fine on a 06, I know some have set off CEL's on 07+ models.

As mentioned the '05 and '04 did not have a full muffler bypass, all the exhaust went into the muffler and the exhaust valve opened up a second exit pipe from the muffler. It will make some difference, but not as much as the '06 and later.

There is some feedback that tubi's on 06+ model lose power but on 04/05 great.

You can unplug the valve on the 2006 cars without any problems, although you loose some bottom end torque and the car may misfire if you put too much load on it at low revs.

Personally i would look for a 2006 car as the difference in gearing and the switchable straight through exhaust make a good car, excellent.

Drove an 04 and 06 at lunch, couldn't really tell the difference. The 06 sounded slightly louder at full bore and had the front lift. Although the guy who owns the 04 says he has no problems going over speed bumps? Condition of both cars were a bit used but definitely can imagine having fun in that car.

I wouldn't pay an extra £10k for an 06 car.

I appreciate it may be an improved car, but not £10k better in my opinion..........

year newer, more power(well over the 20bhp stated) better gear ratio`s(70 mph in 1st is stupid), better steering(quicker rack), better suspension(it actually works), and much better quality fit and finish, so yes I would say it`s well worth £10k to swap, although it did cost me £30k to go from 04 to 06.

I think you need a longer test drive. But unless your mate has an 06 car and you are constantly reminded about the differences i don't it will be a big deal if you got an earlier car.

Personally, the 06 is the better choice if funds allow. Most of them have the calisto wheel upgrade which transforms the looks.

good luck

Ted definitely on paper it makes sense, and I was only making a judgement based on my 20min drive. My turbo doesn't come alive until you really push it. I'm at two minds at the mo, either buy an 04/05 in addition to my turbo or buy a 560 or late model G and sell the turbo. The new Gen 2 is coming out and may impact my cars value even more, also even though impressive car the car sounds like a fart, and sound is what I really miss from my 360 days.

Speeds bumps(without lift) and compact inside for long journeys(I am very broad) is a slight concern for the gallardo. How have you found these factors?

As I said, i appreciate its a better car, but I would not pay £10k extra for those things, that are negligible details imo. Whatever made you throw £30k at it!!! lol

I drove an 07 plate gallardo a couple of weeks ago and was very disapointed to find that it drove no better than my 04 plate, the gear ratio was the most notable change and better for it,1st gear is far to long on the earlier cars as for extra power i couldnt feel it, however an extra 20bhp on a car that already has 500 is never going to noticable in my opinion.

Found out the 04 ground clearance is higher than your turbo so you should be ok baj.

The imminent release of the Gen2 997 Turbo should be a good thing for us Gen1 owners. Expect to hear about coked up inlet valves and regular head-off work on the new DFI Gen2 cars!

May be making an offer on an 04 G, one last question: Was there any visual differences between the 04/05 and the 06 model? Tks

I have a Mk1 GT3, and I have 6.5cms clearance to the ground from the front spoiler. I have to be very careful but it is doable - although some extreme speed humps are not possible tbh - but I have only found one road in London suburbia that has those!

I think the G (depending on setup) should have around twice that from what I read so it should be fine in most situations.

As someone else has said, your Turbo is apparently lowersmile
