Anyone know where to find out more about Maser Spyders?
Production mumbers, 0-60, top end, mpg, engine sizes, options - that sort of stuff.
Also what's good, what's bad about them.
I have an itch that must be scratched when my Tammy's day is done (which may never happen as I've had TVRs for the last 22 years so leaving won't be easy, but they 'ain't making TVRs anymore. Plus the thought of a 4.2l engine in the Spyder makes me think it might be quite fast).

They are pretty quick, MPG, well best not to ask really, 9 or 10 when pushed, handling is sort of OK but there is some scuttle shake and they do tend to understeer, 2004+ Cars with glass rear screen had strengthened chassis which helped a bit, can't recall but think Skyhook suspension was an option and recommended, I loved ours but my Wife couldn't get on with the Cambiocorsa which was woeful at slow speed manouvering, to compare my 355 F1 is 100% improvement in that arena and on reflection maybe we just had a bad oneProduction mumbers, 0-60, top end, mpg, engine sizes, options - that sort of stuff.

You just had a bad one
though I do believe you can vouch for the top speed...
Cambicorsa is great just only ever use it sport mode - auto or not sport and its rubbish. Scuttle shake is there but fine, not had understeer - had oversteer though
Required options are a tubi.
Cheers
p.s. bad things are mpg - thats all

Come to Cheltenham and I'll take you for a spin.

0-60 - about 5 seconds? (and it will)
mpg - about 15-ish long term average, highest I've seen 22 mpg on a long run, and lowest 10 when on a short, sharp run
Production numbers - no idea, but I've had mine three years, and only saw the first other one on the road 2 weeks ago. They're very rare....
Top end - There's some youtube footage of a guy doing 0-300km/h in Italy somewhere, although the 'book' top end is about 176?
Engine sizes - only 1 engine, the 4.2
Options - not many, and most are included as standard by the original purchaser, there's hardly any out there with basic spec.
It is, for quite a discreet car, loud and fast. In fact, very loud, and really quite fast.
I've never had a problem with handling, although there is a bit of scuttle shake, this hardly spoils the experience, which is superb.
The great thing is you can drive it like a GT, 120 miles an hour, all day, without breaking a sweat and one hand on the wheel, and your wife or girlfriend can do the same. Alternatively, you can drive it at mach 3 with your hair on fire and have a ball!
Agree with above, use sport mode only, and never use the auto unless you have a sandwich in the other hand....

Great info - keep it coming.
Servicing - frequency / cost?
Not too excited about mpg - my Tam does 28 on the motorway and 20 in town but I drive like Alan Carr.
I presume they are still making new ones - what's the new price and annual depreciation?
Will a dealer let me test drive one if I turn up in cords?

Servicing is a 'dual rate' system. There's an annual service, and also a mileage service (based on the fact these cars seldom do many miles).Servicing - frequency / cost?

Annual is normal stuff, oil, filters etc. Mileage is based on belts, plugs, coolant etc.
My first two services were around £800, both had a small amount of extra work involved plus the standard costs. Last one was a major mileage service, and annual service rolled in to one (probably the largest you'll get), and was just shy of £1500. Mileage service is based on around 8000 miles I think?
I don't think they're still making them, as the new model is currently being launched now (I've just had the email);

Price new was about £75k with a few extras, depreciation about the same as any similar car, or slightly better.
I test drove one at the local main dealer when I was 24, turned up in jeans and t-shirt, booked in, and no worries. The salesman was a real gem, couldn't be more helpful. I then went sailing for a year, so didn't buy straight away.
I went back a year later to buy one, new salesman, and got completely ignored. Left my details twice, but never got a call back even. Ended up buying from an indie instead.
Obviously can't name and shame, but assume I used to live in the Capital city of Wales, and there's only one Ferrari/Maserati dealer in town. This is a couple of years ago now and things may have changed there, but I'm afraid I was desperately unimpressed. Scruffy I may be, but there's no excuse for poor service whatever car you're buying.
Turn up in whatever you like, personally, I think scruffy is better, it shows you don't have to dress to impress anybody!
