I'm thinking about getting a 360 early next year but I'm still having doubt's if it's the right move. My concerns are that although this will be in essence a weekend toy I will still be looking at least 5-6k a year and a lot of these miles will be at hooning pace (of-course below the speed limit).
My present steed is a 996 GT3 which is a great car and hasn't missed a beat, so am I entering a world of pain and will the pace of the 360 disappoint in a real world scenario, or should I get a 997 GT3?.
Just feel I need to scratch the F car itch!. 60k budget by the way.

Im having same thoughts, am thinking about 360 depreciation due to production numbers, it does look like a slightly poorer cousin of the 430 and the fact that arguably its the last of lesser rialiable models?

That said, I still really want to own a ferrari and I have to be honest to myself that ill probably never own a new one. Do I worry about maintenance and any unforseen issues on what is an expensive weekend toy? probably, or should I just go for an R8 and get the low wide look but with similar to porsche reliability I'm used to.

Might get a reliable supercar but does that balance up against the pride/passion thrill of actually owning a ferrari?

I've had similar thoughts and my head say's R8 but I just want to find out for myself how special the ownership experience is. I thought I'd take the leap earlier this year but decided against it and went for the GT3 at the last minute.
My only concern is that a lot of these cars don't seem to be driven enough (in my opinion ofcourse) and I know I won't be able to resist getiin it out the garage most weekends.
I met a chap the other day and he told me that over the last three years he had spent more on his daily hack than his 360, he then went on to tell me that he had only driven it 3500 miles during that time. Christ I'd do more miles getting it in and out of the garage.

It's the far, far prettier poor cousin though. The 430 is 'clunky' and big-arsed looking in comparison to the smooth, svelte curves of the 360.

If you are moving from a GT3 may I suggest that the 360 of choice should be the CS biggrin
Running costs will be higher than your GT3.

I moved over to Ferrari from Porsche (having owned various Porsche versions over 12 years) 10 years ago and thought I would go back after a year or so but am hooked. Must say I would like a Porsche Carrera GT in the garage rather than my CS wink

The need to do low miles myth is such a load of crap.

Especially on a 360.

CS= nice idea, any chance you could lend me the extra 20k biggrin. This is my concern having come from Noble to GT3 and now possibly 360 I'm wondering if I'll miss the performance.

Cheers

Agree regarding the low mileage comment. I bought a 360 Spider 3 years old with 24,000 on the clock. Did 13,500 in 2 years and it never missed a beat. They enjoy being driven. You take a hit on depreciation but if that is a concern dont buy one. Fantastic experience and I dont think you have the reliability/build quality issues of earlier Ferrari models. I thought the 355 was the turning point anyway with most 355 owners reporting good reliability.
You wont regret owning a 360. Buy on condition rather than mileage and enjoy driving it.

The 360 and GT3 have very similar in performance but delivered in a different way, the GT3 with more low down grunt and the 360 needing a bit more revs......but that should not be disappoint you.

I was and still am a 911 addict ......but Ferrari is a whole different ball game... the noise is absolutely intoxicating and because of this the need to extract thew full monty from the Ferrari is not neccessary......but when you do it is still a bloody fast car.

Mine has been totally reliable and imho looks far better than a 430 ......

Use your head to buy a Porsche. Use your heart to buy Ferrari. F is way more to dealer service than a P but a great toy. All cars depreciate. If depreciation worries you, its far better to buy a 360 now than 2 years ago. Mine gets pulled out of the garage once in a while for a good thrashing, 10k in 2 years, £900 for 6 k service and an airflow meter and front ball joints on warranty. Only P to get the better of me on a supercar track day was a GT3RS, but the driver was way better than me. Go on, you know you want to.

I came out of my Porker to get a 360 - so much drama and sheer exhilaration compared to the Porker... The fact I got side-tracked into a 550 is neither here nor there...

A good friend of mine has run his pristine 360 for the last few years at around £2k per year servicing (which includes a couple of silly jobs that were worth doing) - it's now up for sale at Kent High Performance as he's trading up and having a kid (blue manual) - that started me down the Ferrari road

I think if I change out of the 550, it might well be for the 360 (cs?) as I am still a little torn despite buying a 550. Either way, the Porker just didn't feel special enough...

Just to reiterate what has been posted before. The 360 is an excellent proposition. After 20 years of 911 ownership my 360 is without doubt the finest thing I've ever bought. It is used every day and as a driving experience it has exceeded every expectation I had. The 911 is an iconic sports car but as far as I'm concerned it is no Ferrari. I just wish people would get over this mileage obsession, these cars are much better when used regularly and enthusiastically. If you buy one and keep it for a couple of years you will lose money, it is a price worth paying. In reality the loss probably won't be any greater than if you'd bought a new BMW, Merc or Jaguar. Have a look at this months EVO magazine, they've got a buyers guide for the 360, I'm featured in it, sadly they cropped the car off the photograph.

The 997GT3 is an awesome car but I think it is a 996 model that the 360 is being compared to.

Either car will be subliminal but the Ferrari is the one that will seduce you.

This matter has been discussed many times before.
I think it boils down to....
You buy a Porsche with your head and a Ferrari with your heart.
True?

I'm more concerned that it might seduce my wallet if I'm honest but I do know what you mean. I think if I had to criticise the Porsche I would say that it's perhaps too good, it does everything very very well almost without trying. I know it's ridicolous but for me that almost removes character.
I would / will have another Porsche once I move this one on but the F car just seems something I'm going to have to do!.

Going on looks alone though, one would go for a 355, and an incredible example can be had with a budget of 60.
