At 46,000 miles - is this too many miles?

Is it better to by on condition with the 348 or go for a more low mileage option?

In my eyes 46k is nothing on a car...

This might help: http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1233214.htm

Buy on condition rather than mileage. 46k on a 20 year old car isn't that bad. Also, although low mileage cars sound exciting the reality is that they can be a much bigger nightmare (and money pit) than average/higher mileage ones. If a car isn't used enough it can lead to lots of problems, compared to a car that has been.

I hope that helps and good luck with your search.

Don't worry too much about the mileage - it's the condition that counts. My 348 has done over 50k and is still going strong smile

I agree with all the above comments.I believe alot of the reliability issues with older Ferrari's is due to a lack of use,not too much use.
Too many owners take their cars out on the sunny days only, scared to put more than 500 miles on the clock in a year and then put them away for 6 months ready for next year. When they then bring them back out, seals have deteriorated, parts have seized up etc and the owner says its due to the car not being made very well.
These are cars that were designed to be driven, not just to be sat in a garage.

Seems quite good value however be aware a major service is now due with belt change. If looked after thay won't give you any problems. On my second and in two years the only exspense has been servicing (although the aircon seems to have a mind of its own at the moment)

Something definitely not right with either the car or the advert. He says it's a TS, but then says it's the later spec 320bhp, which would make it a GTS, not a TS. Also, the badge on the back would say GTS as opposed to TS.

It is also looked after by someone who doesn't know much about 348s… the wheels are directional and are on the wrong way around.

As for the original posters example. If all is well with the car then snap his hand off as it's a bloody bargain! (as demonstrated by the following ad for the same year TS at £26,500 - ok, that might be a bit high but £18,500 is ludicrously low).

Mileage - you'll find that most 348 owners drive them, with good reason smile

Mine is just coming up to 50k and as Blueyonder and a few others can testify, goes like the proverbial train and has been to Le Mans three times in the last 16 months and with no problem whatsoever.

my point exactly, what is are the insurance costs on a car like this? I assume it's a lot cheaper then your average Ferrari due to it's age?

That's a 300bhp engine not the later 320bhp one.I'd aslo be worried that it's just had a recent service by a Ferrari specialist and they haven't put the wheels on the right way round.

Perhaps whoever put the (directional?) tyres on put them on the wrong way round and it's better to have the tyres than the wheels right?

The OP one looks like a bargain! I'm tempted to look myself but the other half wants to move house...

Don't pay any attention to the ad. I know this car well as up until recently (back end of last year) it was owned by a Surrey FOC member and CS poster (in fact he sold the car once and bought it back which tells you something). When I last saw it was in beautiful condition and a lovely (and very rare) colour. Well worth a look. I have more history including a copy of the ad when Rardley's were selling it last November. By the way, it is a very late ts. First registered in January 1994 but would have been built some time earlier as 348s weren't selling new at that time. The "no expense spared" is clearly not by the current owner who hasn't had it long enough.

I know it's a small point, but it shows that the current owner, or whoever has been looking after it, does not know much about the car. The wheels are directional for a reason, the tapered edges on the spokes are not to go on the leading edge to cut through the air, but to go on the trailing edge to help direct air onto the brakes.

I would be VERY surprised if Rardley were the last people to put those wheels back on.

But like I said - minor points and nothing more than a possible talking point during negotiations ... but at that price I cannot see it being there for long let alone being haggled over!

I pay £340 for mine (through Michael Ward). the mainstream insurers will be stupid prices, but the specialist brokers will find you a good deal. smile
