http://www.dhales.co.uk/viewauction.aspx?ITEM=6ADB...
just incase anyone is after any parts

BTW Fishponds is the bristol site IIRC and you need to be a registered bidder to view in person.

do i get an award for the amount of times ive had to edit this post?

Such a shame - could that not be restored? The picture doesn't look too bad...

according to the guys at d.hales its got to be broken. Im trying to find out if the shell is crush or if it can be cut and sold, as a 1/4 panel would make such a nice wall ornament

Unless the heat from the fire has done some serious distortion to the chassis (unlikely and even then it could be sorted with enough expertise/money), then I dont see the reason for destruction either.

Sounds to Me like the insurance company have paid out on the claim and just couldn't be bothered to look at this case sympathetically ("cost of repair= 3 times the value of the car, might as well just write it off and scrap it!").
Would be interesting ti find out the reason why though.

Similar thing is the number of times I see Ferrari 400's being broken at Eurospares purely because they require exhausts replacing (yes, I know the exhausts are not cheap to replace but Eurospares must be able to get a good deal on them).Just seems such a waste!.frown

The car will have to be scrapped rather than repaired due to the chemicals used in the interior becoming caustic in the fire

That's no GT4. It's a far more valuable 246 GTB. Beautiful car, pity it's been destroyed frown

It'll either end up being broken / squashed or via the back door become the basis of a chassis plate and gearknob "restoration" of a long forgotten / missing Dino

Personally I thnk it's tragic that such an historic/iconic car in this 'apparently' retrievable state is to be scrapped. Surely that's not more than £20k to sort (engine, glass, interior/paint)? On another note it should go for some money, apparently the transaxles alone are five figures, after all the engine is close to the Fiats but the gearbox unique. I'll shut up now. Rant over. Well almost, it's my favourite car ever, and I'd swap my 355 for one anyday (but not this one smile though I'd probably regret it once inside. Right, finished now.

This was my car. Really was no option but this for the car. I tried to persuade insurers to make it a Cat C so I could buy the salvage but their policy for fire damaged cars is total loss. When you look at the damage it doesn't look too bad but when you start adding it up alot more than £20k. Is such a shame to see such a good car with documented history lost to the crushers.

Tragic.

Bet there's not that many good ones left on the road today.

I had one before selling it to a collector in Japan.

Great little car and brilliant to drive.

Sorry for you

This was mine

Thats insane! Surely not scap with so visibly little damage - yes I know parts are expensive, but in this day and age that is a rare and desireable car whichever way you look at it. Criminal.... Who was the insurer by the way? Will make sure I try not to use them if this is there policy.

Damage was extensive. I'm sure you could have done a poor job and got it on the road but to do a proper job then full rebuild with alot of replacement parts were needed. Would you be happy not rebuilding the engine after that etc etc. I tried to save it but economically it just wasn't worth it.

I know it wasn't your choice but if it was a matter of economics many cars would never be restored.

Absolutley gutted for you frown seeing your car end up like that must be hard.
But hopefully it made you smile while you owned it , what more could anybody ask for.
