There only seems to be one switch for the lights, can someone tell me if this operates the side lights and automaticly switch's to main beam when it gets dark. The manual doesn't seem very clear on this.
Thanks.

my 2007 sl has the one switch
off is everything off
on is headlights on when then ignition's on
on is sidelights on when then ignition's off
( so, you can't drive with just sidelights, or park with headlights on )

No sidelights, but with the lights off, if you park and leave the indicator stalk one way, you will get sidelights on that side only.

Bit of a design flaw I think.

I spent ages last night playing with the light switch, holding it in, pressing it twice quickly pressing twicw slowly .....etc etc

It would be nice to be able to drive with just side lights, they look very cool.

Ok, just googled RTFM as I am not up with all the acronyms used here and got 'Read the **** manual' I have done this as mentioned previously in this thread. So Bertie have you found a way to drive with just side lights? I feel by other responses to this thread I am not the only one having this issue.

Nope, you can't.

You have 2 choices, lights on, or lights off.

I am in a grumpy mood today I know, but come on, if you have read the manual it's not tricky.

Congrats, nice car BTW

I am coming to the conclusion I prefer the Coupe to the Spyder, and I've had 2 Spyders too irked

Thanks Bertie, I am at the stage where the car is new to me and reading a manual is the last thing I want to do. I just scan it when I really need to. At the moment all manuals are sitting in my reading room. (Toilet)

Having tinkered around a bit with something called "VAG-COM" a long time ago, I know there are settings in the ECU that are deactivated for the EU market, but can be activated for the US market.
One of those is daytime running lights.

As the G is essentially made by Audi, chances are, someone with VAG-COM can find the setting for you, and activate it.

I'd go onto one of the VAG forums and ask... I'm sure they'll do it for free if you take them for a drive around the block wink

Is there a secret menu system somewhere? For example to make your wing mirrors go in when you lock the car etc.

I can thanks, manuals and everything!

My point is you still wouldn't be able to switch them so even if this is possible, and I'm not sure it is, you'd have sidelights permenantly on.

OP was asking if there was a way to switch them.

As I posted, it should be in the onboard computer... But AFAIK those options are not available through any menus.

Just out of interest. When you have your mirrors folded in, and get back into the car and start back up, do they take a while to fold back out? Not actually slow to move, just take a while to start moving?! Or am I doing something wrong.

I only fold the mirrors up when I put the car into the garage, and as soon as I am past the door way I unfold them, I need them out to see my way in as my garage is quite narrow. They fold and unfold quickly, there is no delay.
