Gallardo buying help ..E gear etc

I'm thinking of buying a 2004 or 2003 Lamgorghini Gallardo but have heard that early E gear cars were not good . does anyone know when they were uprated and how would you know ? ...any other tips about what to look for when picking a car would be VERY welcome ! ...thanks anyone who can help !
