I think I need or will need a new clutch very shortly (For my manual car). I am wanting the new revision clutch (sintered??). I have been told by a couple of garages when I have phoned for quotes that the new revision clutch is the same as the e-gear clutch? Is this right? Does anyone know the specific clutch I need to ask for, to ensure I get the newer more durable one. As I seem to be getting different answers so far.

Thanks

I remember seeing somthing about there being an inspection hole to view the clutch. Although I dont know where that hole is.

This is for e-gear's only.

Manual's have to be checked the old fashion way e.g strip the car down sufficiently to gain access.

Also, its the E-revision clutch you want.

Thanks Sarnie, is the E-revision clutch the same as the e-gear clutch? I have been told that manuals are now being fitted with the e-gear clutch. You see I am being told this by an Indy that has a very good rep on here, after asking for a quote for a sintered clutch.
It seems to clash with what I have read on here when I have done search's. I am getting confused!!

I'm not sure what he means by the E-gear clutch.

As far as I know, the clutch was the same for the manuals and the E-gears, except they kept failing miserably. They kept revising it up until they got to the E-revision, also known as the Sintered clutch, and is the one in Gallardo's from MY06 onwards.

There may be differences between manual and e-gear clutches, but I've not heard of it.

Wrong!!

The E-revision clutch is not the same as the sintered clutch, I think but could be wrong here that the sintered clutch is a type "D" Revision.

E-revsion is (or was) around £1200 and the sintered clutch is around £1800.

Also Egear cars are checked via a computer diagnostic program. The hole underneath is to check manual cars but cannot be relied upon.

There was some information somehwere a while ago on here i think, Something to do with how much the revs drop when you pull away but again i think this is a questionable method.

You may be right that the sintered clutch is the D revision. However, if that solved the premature wear problems, why did they make an E revision? I would asume the latest version (E) is the one you should fit. Also unsure whether they discontinued making the D revision once the E revision came out.
I could, however, be wrong ..........

AFAIK The D revision came out after the E.

Why they decided to do this i have no idea, The sintered is the better of the two clutches and has been proved to be ni-on Bullet proof, The E revision is still week in comparative terms.

Someone correct me if im wrong but the E revision was supplied in all E-Gear cars after xx year and the D came supplied on all manual cars after xx year.

Gring, its the sintered clutch (for manual) you want - its the most expensive one, but will last you x10 longer than the old gallardo clutch. Part Number 07L105269G. In between washing my car with a scourer and detailing, I got a new clutch...

Excellent a part number! Thanks Lordy. It seems so hard to get a straight answer from the main dealers and indy's, they all seem to give a slightly different answer!
10x longer seems to good to be true, I would be happy with 2x longer, my car is still on the origional clutch after 24500, previous owner must have been very very good at changing gear!
Now to decide who I get to do the work. Lambo reading is the nearest but not sure about them, would like to take it to LHW but they are a long way away.

no worries. Mine got to 22K miles before it was suggested i get a new one. I hear the 'average' is 9K miles! I would use LHW - always had a good experience with them.

My car has been looked after by LHW in the past, I have spoken to them and they are by far the nicest dealer people I have spoken to so far. Problem is the distance. It's 80 miles, so I may just hire a car. They could pick it up but that would cost about £700 for the round trip, thats 8 tanks of fuel! or 350 pints of beer! I have tried contacting Lambo Reading on a few occasions, but am yet to get through to anyone and have had none of my calls returned.
Lord, what were the signs that you needed a new clutch? My car seems to squeal a bit when pulling away. And I have felt the clutch slip slightly on a couple of occasions.

£700 for 80 miles? Are you sure? I'm further away than that and they chrged me about £150, IIRC.

Apparently heavy clutch (although i didnt know what 'heavy' was - as its all relative and i had never driven a gallardo before!), and difficult gear change from 1st to 2nd (even after the car have warmed up). It was the mechanic who suggested i get it done from what he saw when looking at it - he suggested I had a matter of weeks left on it. Since I had a long trip coming up to cornwall i didnt fancy breaking down, so got it done....

Ahh, ok, my clutch is really quite light, cant imagine it could be any lighter. My change from 1st to 2nd is allways a touch harder for the first couple of mins, just have to push it in a bit harder, then it's fine. I may leave it a little longer.
