Saying hello to fellow cool dudes
Discussion
when im driving and i spot another Lambo or Ferrari coming towards me i usually flick the lights or wave hi (a sort of cheesy respect to a fellow brethren and a bit like truckers and bikers i guess...).
Some drivers flash back/wave, others dont (too cool for school?)... Is there a road etiquette to all of this shenanigans?

If I get a wave, I will give a wave back, but I dont initiate.

Had a guy waving and flashing at me ( using his car although there are very friendly parks about here) from a Black Gallrado yesterday on Bothwell Road Hamilton yesterday!
My view is simple, if people have the manners to say hello to you then you should have the good manners to reply!

Its a strange on this. I find that there are many different reactions. But as a rule owners of older cars are usually the friendliest because they are enthusiasts. Newer car owners can be up there own back sides when an older car flashes. The only time a newer car owner flashes is if they are Italian enthusiasts. Just because one is in the position to buy a new ferrari does not mean they are an enthusiast, the car they are in can just as easily be a new jag.

I've never (unfortunately, but I do aspire to) owned a supercar, but I've had this when I've owned Minis, Capri, Nissan 200sx, Mazda RX7, etc.
I think it's nice when it happens, but I'm shy so not one to instigate such an action, but I always respond when I get a flash or a wave, and it makes me smile.
I have, on rare occasion, given obvious (yet subtle) respect to owners of top end supercars I've encountered in traffic, I enjoy and appreciate their presence on the road and it's nice, not being a jealous type of person, to get a smile or wave back in acknowledgement.
Proper 'car people' stick together no matter what their budget is!
I once pulled over to speak to the owner of a parked Ferrari F50, when they were brand new at the time, and he gave me huge respect for my tatty Ford Capri 2.8I!
It ended up with the best passenger ride in a car that I've ever had!

Digressing slightly, I recall 'tooling' down the A1 near Catterick in the late sixties in my Rep's delight, ( MK 2 Cortina with 5 1/2" J rims, a la Jim Clark !), when I saw a D type approaching at a lesurely pace. Winding my window down I stuck my hand out and gave the driver the thumbs up. Much to my delight he slowed down, at the side of me (dual carriageway). He winked, dropped two cogs, floored the throttle, a quick wave and he was off like the proverbial! (I subsequently found out it was a very well heeled chap called 'Jumbo' Goddard in an ex Le Mans car.) I have never forgotten this encounter from someone I never met but we were obviously on the same wavelength, irrespective of the great age difference we had between us. I have been fortunate to own some very interesting cars, over the years, and have always remembered that I too should pass on Jumbo's attitude to those who show interest in what I am driving, whether it be a wave, light flashing or a request to give an aural experience to interested parties!
