A very young friend of mine wants to buy an old Ferrari or Lamborghini unfortunately he cannot even get an insurance quote at 19 years old.
I saw that on the 'what do you think about young drivers in super cars' forum that many drivers are very young.

How on earth would he go about getting a quote without being hit on the head?
Like I said he is 19 years old and because he likes his classics would it be best to get a classic car policy?

Who would you recommend?

Thanks in advance.

Try Hagerty, I've had classics (including a Porsche) with them for a while and the service is pretty good. Age may be an issue though.

Speak to

www.michaelwardassociates.com

They insure young "professional" drivers (sports stars, etc), so get your friend to speak to them

Unfortunately he is no professional footballer; still just a student with a lot of cash.
He does use another car on a regular basis....Jeep 3.0 CRD.

He tried them as soon as you suggested the idea....age restrictions apply; they cannot insure anyone under the age of 30.

Doesn't matter. I am neither young or a footballer and they insure me. They are worth a try.

Of course he will At a price.

Rooney had a Vanquish at 19 and paid about £20,000 a year with a £20,000 excess.

Aon / Footman James (same firm really) do a very competitive policy for me. Cover from a stated location and garaging for 5k miles (as if...) and FC cover for two named drivers with a Club-confirmation of the car's value (...not the most difficult thing to acquire for what should be obvious reasons, ahem) and sub-£200 for the year.

As I'm a member of LCUK I get a discount in addition to the near-zero extra fee should the limited mileage is to be exceeded (and again, as if, chance would be a very fine thing...)

They are mostly uninterested about anything else I may drive - not too sure they wouldn't be if I was younger than I am though.

and I am now, officially, very fuggin' old...

Dear Mr dot,

We have a fairly long-standing agreement with Aon/FJ that requires you to ask for the discount after which you should inform them what your Membership number is, (which they can confirm with the Club) and, should the phone-minder need to speak to the Aon manager who arranged the deal to confirm the agreement, they can also then check with me or Lynne B.

Your Membership number is... around here somewhere, I think... call me or Lynne if you don't seem to have it quite to hand... smile

MW don't only use them. they do offer other policies. I have a Chubb Masterpiece through MW and this is a simply awesome policy, bar none.

dear mr I,
it's the name of that aon manager who arranged the deal that i kindly request
no-one in aon whom i have asked, and i mean no-one, knows of this arrangement
if we could find this mystery person then we could instantly double lcuk membership
hell, i'd even re-join myself !
regards, .

... LCUK Membership would barely register any greater numbers with even a much larger discount. Is that really all you'd want the Club for?

note to self (again) - never, ever enter this sort of discussion again. Never.
