Hi all, another question from me again!

Does anyone have any rough figures for the cost of a PPI on an F355 Have googled and can't seem to see any prices)? And could they recommend any people/companies that do it? I'm looking for one that will include a compression test and leak down test - apparently the latter is actually more important. If I buy privately it's v important that I have as much confidence as possible that I'm not going to end up with a £10k bill a month later, thus I need a PPI figure to budget for when working out what I can afford.

As a final thought, is it necessary to have a PPI done if buying from a reputable independent dealer, say Verdi? Or is that overkill?

Once again, any info would be greatly appreciated,

M

I'm afraid I can't give you a exact figure but it would be around £300 I think for an inspection, which I'm guessing would include the compression test.

If you can't get a good answer on here it may be worth asking on http://www.clubscuderia.co.uk/
they have a technical section that might be worth asking in.

Hope that helps

If the car's taken to the person doing the ppi - workshop rate for inspection & report (approx 4 hours) so around £300

If the PPI is done at the vendors - above + mileage charge + travel time (around half workhop rate)

all variable based on what car and where it is etc

genuine question : what does a £200 to £300 ppi show that a £54 mot test and a quick nosey doesn't ?

Mot does'nt buy you a expert inspection of panel fit. paint work.Tell tale signs of clocking,Mechanical checks that different cars suffer from,, I e ball joint on 360 could be a pass on mot but need doing in 3,000 costing a fortune Clutch wear & a hosts of hidden costs,
buying a car that could be a money pit, Its never a guarantee but it a good start to saving money long term,,
I own a bodyshop but still take one of my staff for extra care,, I have a mate who owns a MOT station who has a tester that couldnt service a car never mind inspect a car...IMHO

As well a the safety related bits that an MOT would cover, as Yellogriff's said, all the bits an peices that could cost money, inlcuding a leak down test and with the newer cars a full print out of anything iffy stored in the ECU, plus paint depth / accident damage checks which will give you an idea of what bodyworks been done and why.

Another example would be that on a 308 a tell tale sign that the water pump is on its way out are droplets of water or a residue around the weep hole on the underneath of the pump behind the pulley, to replace its around £300..................no MOT test would spot it smile

Im guessing you must have bought your Lamborghini superleggra brand new then. Some were down the line the next owner/buyer may have a PPI before he/she buys it. Far to much money involved not to IMO.

Well basically a good report should look something like this, mine was 180 points covering everything in detail ( graded 1- 3 from needs attention to good condition)

Mine was done by Robert at Grimaldi. It covers everything from the operation of the emergency petrol cap release to engine compression to quality of the boot light bulb !!!!

Very very thorough !!! a little more piece of mind on an older car than an mot.

Depends on the details that you require, PPI should include a HPI, Physical inspection, written report and verbal explaination of findings, as all findings have to be compared with normal for mileage etc. Prices start at £150 + travelling allowance. - pending where the car is - should have a factor on whom you use. Some specialists focus more of cosmetics and others mechanical - finding a balance is the key which will depend on what you are looking for in the car.

Mario - how are you getting on? Are you closer to finding your 355?

Yup, seen a few, have a few ideas, just need to sell my current car for a sensible price rather than get too excited and lose more money than necessary....the wait is killing me though wink

One of your colleagues emailed me a while back, so will get in contact when ready to go
