Do you have the service schedule book with all the service stamps in ?

Generally its 12K miles or annually I think and alternates major/minor.

If memory serves from my old 4200, there's some purely time based stuff as well....

There is an annual service at least. Check on maseratiforum.co.uk , lots of 4200 owners there.

Each year, or 6250 miles, whichever comes first. Level of service depends on what year the vehicle is and if the service history is correct.

It is actually 12k or annual. There are also major services at 6k, 18.5k, 31k etc. If you do 5-7k pa then you can alternate between annual and mileage services.

I also endorse maseratiforum.co.uk for good advice and some sound recommendations for independent service specialists. Remember that ex tyres these cars cost £1.5-2k pa to service (at an independent) if you amortise in the costs of brakes and clutches and things going wrong (which they do, largely electrical). Still worth it though as the purchase prices are so low!

Remember to get your alignment checked every two years or so or earlier if you get irregular tyre wear.

Some spurious advice here!

Spyder has what they call 'dual' servicing schedule.

Some by mileage, some annual.

You should have an annual service, and/or 6k, 18.5k, 31k as above.

A service should cost between £500 to £1500, main dealer prices, depending on which one you're having. I had a major service last year (The 31k plus an annual) which came out at £1400, that included rather a lot of work.

I've not heard of any major electrical problems on the 4200, mine certainly hasn't had any, and neither have hardly any others on the maserati forum.

The 3200 is renowned for electrical gremlins, but that's a completely different model!

Where on earth do you get 'spurious' from in this context?

Pop onto maseratiforum and you will get a fair reflection of the electrical gremlims present in these cars. Not enough to put most enthusiastic owners like myself off but present nevertheless. It all depends on how many of them you wish to fix and how many you just ignore.

As for costs, I stand by what I said once you include the fact that a clutch will be £1200+ and you will need one (possibly two) on a five year ownership period and brake discs are £150+VAT each. You may get away with pads only for a while (as I am doing at the moment) but the chances of needing new discs over five years are high. Costs can be lower if you don't keep the car long and can get away with just a mileage and annual service but you will pay for the 'other' service costs in the high dealer margins on these cars if you keep the car only a short time.

Great cars but they do cost!

Oh and, 'spurious', are you having an off day?

Already a member and regular poster on the maserati forum.

There are a lot of known gremlins in the 3200, but the 4200 / Spyder is much more reliable, it's a completely different beast.

In four years and 25'000 miles, I've not had a clutch or discs, only pads. Serviced annually by guys who really know their stuff, I don't mind paying extra for this.

Out of interest, what 'electrical gremlins' are you talking about?

The only common faults I was aware of are the F1 pump on early models, and leather trim that peels away from the airbags (and is easy to re-fit).

Best to park this I think. I accurately state the service regime and you have a go.

No point in going over the electrical issues as there are plenty posted on the maseratiforum website. Most, thankfully, are minor and can often be overlooked.

The issue of clutches and brakes depends on the mileage a car has when bought, what has been done before and how you drive it. I am going down the new pads route myself as my independent says the discs are fine but the main dealer says they are shot! Pays your money and....

As for the clutch they are some that do 40k and some that do less than half that. The latter is more common mind you. Again depends on treatment.

Continue enjoying your car and have a Happy New Year.
