thinking of getting a grandturismo, but.....
Discussion
afternoon,
currently got a sagaris and a RR and looking to sell both and get a Granturismo. Not found a lot of info and what i have found is a bit conflicting.
Can anyone shed any light on running costs, services, major works that need doing (i.e. belts at 30k)etc
I'm looking to pick one up a few years old with 8-15k miles on it. any advise much appreciated. Thanks
Mike

I reckon you should keep the Range Rover and Sagaris .. Nice combo.
Sorry, I don't know anything about the service/maintenance cost but I do know that I really did not like the Grandturismo when I had one (albeit for one weekend). I found the whole car a big let down.
Have you been on any test drives yet?
All the best.

12k service on my GT was £900 at Modena Trident Maser (the Maserati bit of Lambo Wycombe). Nothing went wrong with my first one, and (touch wood) bar tiny warranty items (front indicator in the wings, ciggy lighter failing) everything it tickety boo so far with this one.
The cooking GT is not a fast sportscar that one can hustle, its a discreet and subtle achingly gorgeous grand tourer that will waft 4 adults along in comfort and style all day long.

Thanks for your feed back everyone, I do love my sag and still not sure about getting rid but I cant stop looking at the GT!!
Mosi did you use yours as an every day car? I dont anticipate putting many miles on it, but plan on keeping it for a while, did you ever have a major service? I'm guessing service cost will be more than the sag but the intervals will be further apart (sag is every 6k / 1 year). Thanks again, regards,
Michael

The GT wont offer the thrills that your Sag does, its not designed to be anything near the same experience.Mosi did you use yours as an every day car? My GT is a daily smoke yes, roughly 1-2k pm in mileage. The major service on the GT is due at 24k miles IIRC, I will most likely be in something else by then though. Rough guess is that the major service will be around £1500-1800??

I would echo what Mosi has said, the GT is very much what it says it is, a GT, rather than a sports car. Nothing wrong with that and it is a lovely car to drive, but I for one wanted a bit more urgency and edge and went for the S, which is frankly superb. Coming from a Sag I reckon you would miss the instant acceleration that offers and although the S is certainly not in the same league it does a very respectable job of pretending to be a sports car when needed, which the GT simply cannot manage.
It has a service regime of 12k or every 2 years from memory and I would expect to pay between £1k and £1.8k depending on whether it is a normal or big one. Use my S most days and have no issues at all with it. I would however try to keep the RR if I was you, I have RRS and have to say for the times when you need the space (or it snows - you really don't want to even contemplate the GT in the snow!) they are pretty much unbeatable. Good luck.

I too am looking at getting one of these and should be having my first test drive at the weekend.
I'm looking at 57 plate with about 7000 miles. Anything specifically to look out for? Any "must haves"
like BOSE for example?
Apparently it's got a scratch on the nose after a parking incident and is being painted before I see it. Would any one consider this to be a negative if the paint is done perfectly, I suppose it does depend on the extent of the damage?

If the repair is so good you can't tell it's been done, then there's no problem I would say I'm looking at 57 plate with about 7000 miles. Anything specifically to look out for? Any "must haves"

On a totally separate note, going from an Elise to a GranTurismo is going to be an interesting change for you!

I'd want to see it beforehand so you know what a "scratch" is, some people may consider a scratch 1 inch deep and 12 inches long. Most cars have stone chips here and there so its surprising they want to respray it before you see it if its only a hairline type affair.I'm looking at 57 plate with about 7000 miles. The Elise will be staying for blating around and the GT will be used for cruising
