Not wishing to let Ferrari off the hook, but Lamborghini aren't that great either - here's a pic of my horribly hologrammed bonnet on the SV, caused by poorly applied polish

The real thing that bugs me about the Ferrari paint is the number of stone chips you get compared to the Lamborghini paintThe insides of the painted wheels also showed some signs of overpainting
That is a funking disgrace, i cant believe any car producer let alone two that charge SO much for their cars would allow them to leave their factories in such shoddy states. This genuinely angers me and i'd like to think i'd be able to spot the blemishes on collection of the vehicle and demand they pay for the detailing repair costs before i took it away. Cheeky f

Gorgeous car. Shame about the littler exhausts inside the big ones though
Although the Ferrari 458 are not the only ones to do this, Lamborghini Murcielagos also do it even more so.

Back to the OP. This is really piss poor work that we would balk at on cheapies let alone 6 figure cars. Why the hell is their finished product so bad. Looks like you need to take an expert detailer with you prior to collecting your brand new pride and joy. I was annoyed when I bought the missus a three year old X5 and the idiots had machined swirl marks into the metallic black. Do people not take pride in their work anymore. Ok the 458 is relatively mass produced compared to the SV but my mind boggles.
On another note as far as paint goes. Talking to quite a well informed chap, they still are struggling to make these water based paints work effectively. It really does not make any sense to spray your car with coloured water. I hate to think what the real long term effects will be. As sure as hell the paint manufacturers don't know.
The old tradition returns?
"Pay for the engine, you get the car for free"
Bit harsh as the oily bits are reckoned to be unsurpassed. Shame someones pride and joy needed 10 hours work to make it presentable, but still needs a repaint in areas.
Do 458 buyers frequent forums?
I still would, and the dealer would be my b
h forever for dishing up this for my £160,000 pounds. Think I would be asking for F40 or 599 as my courtesy car during each service.

Maserati's and Ferrari's are painted in the same shop you know? Maybe they are all like this but aren't all scrutinized as much."Pay for the engine, you get the car for free"

You are indeed correct. For some reason the Ferrari side of the paintshop seem's to think it's a good idea to machine polish (very poorly) sometimes the whole car, more often than not it's a panel here, a panel there.Strangely their Maserati neighbours don't have the same issues.
Believe it or not I've seen worse!...I don't think I've ever seen a new Ferrari where the paintwork is spot-on A1 unfortunately.
This is nothing new, Ferrari are however much better than they used to be.
I have a few 458's booked in and new Ferrari's normally take 1 long day to get them looking good, Aston's take longer.
All SLR's go through me and go through a 2-3 day treatment but they come out from factory better than the above two.

How does the paintwork of a Mclaren F1 compare to the SLR ?I have a few 458's booked in and new Ferrari's normally take 1 long day to get them looking good, Aston's take longer.
