Ferrari 355 spider

Yep thats ya corroded subframe, and its shagged. Ya have to take the engine out and have it replaced (megga money) or repaired by some one who can weld properly.
The cause of this is because there is a moisture and salt trap in that part of the subframe. You will find the one on the other side will look the same. Not good
Glad we got that cleared up.

To fix that properly, you do need to take the engine out as the subframe needs to have a plate welded in to ensure that it's still strong. Seen it done before but shouldn't just be tacked up with a quick weld as all the metal in the area would will be thin...
Absolutely correct. It needs to be done correctly, so the engine NEEDS to be removed. The corrosion in the picture WILL be only the start of the corrosion, mark my words. How can anyone think this is a 5 minet job
I take out my own engine and subframe for servicing, i know whats involved.
This problem happens on both 348s and 355s. I have a brand new engine subframe/cradel in my garage that belongs to PH poster Angelis because of the same problem. Though not as serious.

No wonder there are so many crap 355s out there.
Whilst the subframe is out, if your not replacing it, I'd suggest having it shot/bead blasted then magnafluxed / crak tested, prior to repairing it. From the look of the picture and having seen similar, the metal tears / cracks as its being flexed and has been weakend by corrosion, the factory finish hides most smaller cracks and the only way to find them is to have it all checked
The positive part is, that once its all out / apart, you'll have perfect access to all the oily bits to clean and repaint
