I currently own an E60 M5 which is great but want some Italian flare, am looking at buying either a 04/05 Gallardo or Fezza 575M & was after alitle info.
Is the Gallardo usable for an everyday car ie daily commutes of around 50-80 miles a day, know the 575M would be as it's a GT car. Know this has been discussed before but do the clutches last around 10K in both cars. Servicing i expect will be about the same at my local independant specialist.
So would appreciate ya thoughts in ya face Lambo or the more subtle Fezza?
Have been offered 04 E-Gears in Blue & Silver for around 60K with low mileage will prices continue to drop or have the bottomed out?
Have driven a Lambo on the track which was awesome but as yet not the Ferrari.

Got to be the Lambo. For a start running costs likely to be lower. Fine as an everyday drive (except no boot space compared to 575). I guess try both and then choose. Totally different cars so very much personal taste (but it still has to be the Lambo!!).

From my personal experience, clutches are going to last much longer on the 575 than Gallardo but the uprated clutches might make that more equal now.

As for everyday use, the Ferrari is going to be much more comfy, relaxing and actually has a decent boot and space behind seats etc for the everyday things in life. Using the front storage on the Gallardo is wearing, dirty and stores next to nothing to be honest...

But realistically, they are SO different in personality, look, feel, everything expect both being Italian supercars. Go for a long drive in each and I'm sure it will come clear quickly. (oh and take a weekend bag with you just to see what you can really fit and where... was one thing that irritated me, two people with laptops... can just hear IT geek comments and you are out of space!)

I went from an E60 to a 575, but have no experience of the gallardo. I dont do anywhere near as many miles in the 575 as I did in the M5 as I have a secind car which does the motorways etc leaving the ferrari available for weekends. ( ive also had a baby sonce the change which makes it more difficult to get out in the Ferrari).

The Ferrari feels a lot more special but at the same time shows its age ( especially where the gearbox is concerned) compared to the M5.

I am in the process of having my Gallardo's clutch changed at the moment. It had done 26000 miles, I probably could have got a couple of K miles more out of it. So the Gallardo should be able to do much more than 10000 miles, especially if it's the newer uprated clutch.

The complete opposite actually. I started a thread about a similar thing here.

I'd pick the practical, classy 575 over the impractical, shouty Lambo...

The Gallardo is a fantastic car, insanely quick and very planted, even in the wet. I've never driven a 575 but I’m guessing it wouldn't feel as fast, but let’s be honestly it's not exactly slow.

The boot in the Gallardo is a joke. You literally can fit a VERY small bag and that's it, so the shopping will have to into the cabin with you. The 575 on the other hand has a much bigger boot, so is more practical.

The life span of clutches depends on how you drive them and also if it's a manual or flappy paddles gearbox. The flappy paddles boxes tend to have a shorter life span than the manuals, mostly because of the way people drive them. If you learn to put it in neutral at traffic lights and little things like that then it should last a very long time. Either way, the clutch should last well over 10k in either car or gearbox.
The early e-gear Gallardos (04 and 05) weren’t as good as they are now. They were slower and jerkier although if you’re coming from an M5 you’ll be used to that wink. I would advise you drive both the manual and E-gear before making your choice. The manual is very easy to drive, clutch is light and gear change is easy to.

As for future Lambo prices, who knows.

The Galladro could easily be used every day and I’m sure the 575 could to. I currently drive a 430 spider everyday and it’s fine. The problem is no matter how comfy the car is, no matter how easy it is to drive it’s still a supercar. For example, speed bumps. The Gallardo is very low and can catch its nose on speed bumps, so you have to stop and crawl over them. Also rear visibility isn’t great so trying to reverse park can be tricky. You need to think will you be able to park it somewhere safe when you’re at work? Also, you do worry whenever you leave it parked somewhere that some little chav will scratch it or kick the wing mirrors off. Those are the downsides of supercar ownership. Saying that though, I still drive on every day. Yes it’s a little impractical but it puts a huge smile on my face. If you are worried about driving it every day buy a cheap 2nd car for a grand and that solves all your problems.

As for which car to go for, it’s completely up to you. Just make sure you have any car you’re looking at checked over to make sure everything is ok.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Thanks for all ya feed back guy's, look like there were probs with the early e-gears so will probably go manual if i go Lambo, though the wife says get one "subject to no hot 20 year old sitting in the passenger seat"
Stats007 did you go 550 in the end if so are you happy with ya choice?

Am still looking for a 550. The more I see/drive/read/speak to mechanics/owners/dealers the more I'm convinced it's the most useable Ferrari made to date. Maybe a Gallardo in a few years time but for now I don't think they warrant another £20k.

I have no experience of either (and sadly likely never will frown) but from where I'm sitting it would have to be the classy and elegant 575M over the Gallardo all day.

As an everyday prospect I'd have thought it would have been a no brainer. Comfort, speed, practicality and beauty, 575 wins.

But as I say I sadly have no experience of either so feel free to disregard everything I say smile
