Hoping somebody here has a few thoughts:

I got a new battery and capristo fitted last week from a top notch specialist to my 355 berlinetta and when i drove it back from the garage yesterday it was fine and did indeed sound fantastic with the new loud pipes.

However this morning i noticed 10 mins into a start/stop drive in trafffic that the engine felt like it needed reving whilst in neutral to keep it going and when i didnt do this it would just stall. i noticed a small red light flickering everynow and again on the (oil ?) temperature gauge.

I limped back home trying to keep the car in gear and high revs. Each time it stalled it did start again, but i cant help thinking that my problems could be exhaust related perhaps.

My recovery people are coming monday as im not sure they will be able to sort the problem on the spot and so will get it trailered back to the garage that did the work when it opens monday.

Feeling a little gutted about it all as i was on the way to visit a relative ill in hospital and now my ferrari broke excuse doesnt sound very funny.

Thoughts & advice appreciated.

Hey Mark - i believe its a 5.2 car as it has a single inlet to the 2 airboxes.

First of all define whether its the oil pressure gauge, the oil temp 0r even the battery red light. This is very important because if its the oil pressure (and provided you have oil in the car wink)this could be caused by the engine struggling to tick over. This can also apply to the battery light to. So have a look at were it was coming from.,
Now try this procedure. re set the ECU on your car. Turn of the battery in the boot department. Leave turned of for approx 30 mins, then turn back on. then start ya car up and dont rev it, let it tick over for another approx 10 mins. Its important that you dont touch the throttle while the car is ticking over. The F355s ECUs are self learning and will automatically reset its fueling and ignition programs.
Go on try it, then come back and let me know how it is. i bet that will work. Fickle bloody cars the 355s, when mine does silly things like that an ECU reset works wonders.

Good Call Chaz, not 100% sure but I believe you are supposed to press the Stop button on the heater control panel as well to stop the compressor kicking in during this process?

If it's not that I wonder if they've disturbed the idle air valve, on my currnet Spider i found it kept falling out until i adjusted the p-clip that holds it and the symptoms were similar

Thats a Roger on the heater button Mark. The heater/air con has its own ECU. Every thing has to be of.
Good call on the air valve. I suggest him have a look at that after the re-boot.

Thanks guys - im gonna check the oil level tmrw morning as its too dark in the car park now - last topped up ( i assume by the dealer) when i bght the car 4k miles ago in July...the light coming on was the one in on the top left hand side of the little temp gauge next to the speedo.

I do think whatever the problem might be, may have been caused whilst the new exhaust was being fitted.

What a crap saturday its turned out to be!

First of all you cant check the oil unless the engine is running, dont even try. Because if you check it while the engine is of it will give you an empty reading and you will add oil that will over fill the engine then you will be reporting an all together different and catastrophic problem wink
Just do the ECU re-set first also maybe add a liter of oil before you start it back up just in case. But i doubt its the oil. Trust me bud i know what i am talking about, do the re-set;)
Oh yea, if it was your new exhaust that was causing any problems. There would be an engine check light on and not an oil light or battery light.
Regarding you assuming your dealer has topped up your oil in its last service. We have a saying in my specialist line of work, "assumption is the mother of all fk ups".

I got the car trailered down to the garage on monday that had carried out the work the previous week and they sorted the problem quite promptly. Apparently a cable/pipe that helps the car idle had come lose. I was happy to go and pick up the car as it gave me an excuse to wonder round their garage again and look at the 2 Enzo's they had in, amongst other fine metal!

Also a big thanks to Chas (ferrari-spider) for having the time and patience to run me through a few possible solutions over the phone whilst i asked some really stupid questions and mark (f355gts) for his useful advice too.

It now gives me time to enjoy that new capristo thingy thats hanging out the back....

biggrin

Why of course they sorted the problem quite promptly. When i forget to reconnect or tighten some thing it does not take me long to put my hand on the problem eitherbiggrin I said on the phone that it would probably be some thing that has been forgotten, IMO this is to coincidental wink Hey even the holy Graypauls makes silly mistakes like forgetting to attach side panels and forgetting to change the oil every now and then.
I know of one particular very well known Ferrari specialist that cut the brake wear sensor wire on the brake pads just to eliminate the dash board wear light. The owner of the car is a very good friend of mine and reads this forum wink I know most the stories about lot of the dealer/specialist out there. Hey call me cynical.........i am.

Glad you got your problem sorted.
Please check your oil more often than every 4k you could end up with expensive trouble doing that.
