Found this video on another site and found it very amusing as I spend a lot of time in the States. When I have driven a Lambo over hear I dont remember getting this amount of positive reaction:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hcYy62Gzq7w

What I found most interesting was the lack of negative response, or maybe they just edited those bits out.

Is it just an American thing?

Could be clever editing as you suggest but I have also heard numerous times that if you have a nice car in the US people will smile/wave and generally have a positive attitude towards you for working hard to achieve what you possess. As opposed to being branded a 'rick w@nker/mummies boy' over here in the UK.

You are right. My head office is in Tampa Florida so I sometimes hang around Ebor City on a Friday or Saturday night. You do get a lot of guys cruising in high end cars and the reactions from the folks on the street are always positive.

Even when I was driving around in my Hertz Shelby GT-H Mustang rental I was getting loads of compliments. It’s that whole car culture thing

That's great smile. It's a real shame it's not like that in the UK.

The English style isn't to rub it in your face, by revving the engine to attract attention.

True, but as you saw in the vid a number of people were asking them to rev it up as well which was interesting.

Another thing this video got me wondering about was the average age of a Gallardo owner in the States compared to one over here. I suspect they would be younger in the US. Again in Tampa I have noticed a large number of very young guys in European Exotica, but it is an affluent area so it could be expected

Far too much insecurity and bitterness in this septic little isle to get reactions like that.

Its a strange thing actually - people on the continent also appreciate exotica like the US, its only the UK that has a mainly negative attitude, from what I've seen.

in the uk, i've had one person give me the glare for waiting in a disabled space ( adjacent to half a dozen empty disabled spaces ), one person throw his hands in the air when i accelerated ( i didn't realise he was trying to get pic whilst he was driving ) and one person tax me £60 for using 3rd gear as it was intended to be used

other than that it has been 100% positive

sometimes subdued in the south east ( where even lambos are not exactly rare nowadays ) but enthusiatic, sometimes embarrassingly so, everywhere else thumbup

My uncle was given an SLR for his job whilst in America (No, seriously!). He said people loved it, no negative comments etc etc. Married men came upto him and asked for him to take their wifes round the block and up the OXO tower

Edited for the worst spelling in the world.

To be honest Americans get quite excited by most things - 3 things I have found whilst over there - they applaude at the end of a film at the cinema, (sorry movie at the theatre), they applaude the pilot when a plane lands - "alright! woo, nice one buddy, you landed the plane" "thanks for not crashing" and finally I find they applaude roller coaster at the end of the ride.

In fairness though, it makes a nice change to being surrounded by selfish british arse holes who only care about themselves

One thing to consider about that video is that most of the admirers are in a party mood. Look at the clothes they are wearing and where they are. On one of the main strips packed with bars and clubs, most probably fueled with alcohol.

i still think its funny when the guy comes up to the car to shake the drivers hand.If that happened to a u.k. driver you can imagine him speeding off thinking the guy was going to pull a knife and demand the keys!

Sorry to be a bore old bean, but your grammatical use of the word "hear" is incorrect, it should be "here".

While I agree to a point that it would be nice to see people in the uk be a little less reserved about showing their appreciation if you look on live leak at the unprofessional yank soldiers wooping, backslapping and generally getting their jollies while they ram innocent motorists off the road, or just plain drive over cars in tanks, whilst driving around iraq you'll see that they are equally a nation of selfish arse holes.

Brilliant. Love it. biggrin

Personally, if I see a car I like waiting in a side road, I'll let it out.
1) I'll get a decent view of it for a while
2) I'll be able to listen to it.

Then again, I'm not a jealous type.
