Hey,

Just found this forum during my search for a Gallardo and need a little help...

1) Does anyone know of a good place to find Gallardo's? I was looking a few months back and there were tons on autotrader, but now there are very few? PH seems better but is still lacking - there are a couple that suit my budget (early ones, manual, black) but they have high mileage and have been on sale for months. When others appear, they seem to sell in HOURS?! Have tried verdi, bhp etc to no avail...

2) Driving & parking in london... I will be driving the car pretty much every day so need to know peoples experience of leaving it parked on the street etc - where i live is not an issue, but obviously if i go out i may want to stop and get out of the car for a bit! Has anyone experienced vandalism (even accidental vandalism e.g people sitting on it to get photos etc?) or any other issues - im not going to drive it to tesco, but maybe to shopping centres, west end etc etc

Any help with the above would be much appreciated!!!

The short answer is, yes, good ones are selling extremely quickly, even the newer 07/08 cars that are priced right are selling in hours. I guess if the right one comes along you could deposit it over the phone on condition of seeing the car...

Seems crazy but the phone deposit is the way to go.
Just keep checking p/h and a.trader .
Not the way you want to buy a 60k car is it biggrin
But they really do go quick.
You could try top marques, but i think any cars there
will prob be on a/trader anyway.
Can`t help with the parking side, not been to London
in years.
Hang in there ,you will love it.
What spec, year, buget, ill keep an eye out.

cheers happy hunting.

need to be quick if you want a good one, not so good ones will hang around, Mine came on sale at Midday last Friday and I had put a deposit down within about 2 hours without seeing the car in the flesh

There are a few on PH ranging from 55K - 70k
black, manual, most have tubi exhauts from the looks of it.
17,000 miles for 58k - 65k
30,000 miles for 56k

I think with people leaning or sitting on cars happens mostly at hotels when tourists are taking pictures back to show family and friends what they saw.
I havn't seen this happen with any car parked on a street anywhere though.
Like the enzo TK7, when parked at the lanesborough it gets alot of attention, when parked on curzon street it get next to nothing because not as many people pass by that way.

i have been looking for 4 months. my advice is don't panic - there will always be more cars coming for sale, they are not going up in value and you have time to find what is the right car for you. It is annoying to miss cars though, but time is deinitely on your side.

A friend of mine in the trade, informs me that they can't get enough at the moment, but colours are important.

I know of 3 orange ones that have been sold in the last 7 days, two of which were sold within hours of the advert being placed

Yeah some seem to fly yet some are stuck being sold for ages:

For instance why do you think these arent shifting (i can imagine mileage is an issue on the 40k one)

The 18k one looks alright, but I do know its had 7 owners.... only thing missing off them all is Nav i believe?

I can only talk from the 06+ models rather than the earlier ones, but there is definitely short supply of good 06+ cars, dealers are desperate for stock and as someone further up said, most decent 06+ cars are selling in hours not days.

The thing about the problem with mileage is that it is quite short-sighted as all these cars will hit 40k+ miles at some point and to be honest it has never been such an issue on the Audi's that share (large parts of) of this engine. It is a perception thing which will (imho) abate somewhat in the future as *all* these cars will hit that mileage and may prove to handle huge mileages well like some of the Murcis that have done 100k miles in a 3-4 years and thrive. At the moment, my opinion is that this percpetion is possibly caused by this model not haing proved itself above 40-50k miles plus there are still 8-20k mile cars still available so this takes the pressure off. Additionally, you have owners that buy cars mainly worrying about resale which does affect the market - this can explain numbers of owners sometimes but also why there are many cars that owners have been too scared of driving and hence have laughably low mileages still after 5-6 years.

The problem currently is that there is a real mix in the market when talking about early cars. You have 30-40k milers alongside (or within £2-3k) cars with 10-20k miles. It is difficult for both buyer and seller to put a concrete value on these. I think it is important to see the larger picture though, as that black CAT D car went very quickly around the £45K (?) mark with low mileage (to who I have no idea - maybe Target BV....^^). Somehow that has to set a baseline of sorts - would you rather have a 40k mile really nice example with good service history or a 15k mile Cat D...? This is all very subjective of course - some just have to have low mileage at all costs perhaps. To me (who does not fear low mileages but am somewhat bound by what the wider market thinks) would probably discount the 40k mile car at this time purely only because there are other alternatives. However, it seems to me that we have a challenge with seeing both sides of the coin. If a car with 11k miles is worth £3k more than a car with £26k miles then surely a 40 k mile car is worth only a few £k less than a 26k mile car (all things being equal)? It is a "path of least resistance" situation right now, because the opportunity is there. It would be interesting to see what happens going forward (06 cars at £80k...so depreciation will definitely drop off a cliff somewhere there I expect).

What is the lowest value anyone can see a straight Gallardo regardless of mileage and age in the future? £30k? £35k? £40k? Even at the worst case there are many other models that would depreciate a hell of a lot more - £20k in 4 years on a G is not bad at all imho.

(Disclaimer: all very IMHO)

p.s. as stated before - a Nav that is 3+ years old is not desirable imho. A 2004-2005 system wil be better than nothing but not anywhere near as good as a £150 Garmin Nuvi imho.

Very sensible post and cant argue with much there. One thing though, why would you say the nav is not good on older cars?

It is only personal experience in other cars that are 4-5+ years old. the maps tend to be outdated and the systems don't necessarily have very up-to-date functionality - although I must be fair and say I have never tried the nav in the G speficially! I do remember the Top Gear episode where the newish G's system did not recognise Bulgaria as a country....smile I really like my Garmin Nuvi with traffic updates and prefer that going wrong (at £150) than an in-built system....

Just imho of course!

Another point is the early cars dash looks better with nav, 06 on they look the same with or without nav.

Thats the main thing, the dash looks v.dated with a cassete player on display. What the hell use is a cassette deck, especially on a car that cost someone £120k a few years ago!

Does nodody know about leaving the car unattended in random places or do you just not want to scare me with horror stories!!!
