I've had my first Ferrari for two days now, and I just cannot get enough of it. For years my heart has been firmly with Porsche, I never really 'got' the Ferrari thing.

Well I bloody do now! What an amazing car, it's just phenomenal.

I've had one crazy experience with it, and I'm hoping to get some advice from fellow owners about it.

After driving it for most of the day I fired it up and it went to about 1000rpm, then dropped to idle at about 800. It's always fired to 1600 and then settled around 1000 until then. I reversed the car out and as I reved the engine it sounded like a London Bus. It was bizzare. Into first gear and I nearly stalled, more revs and the car pulled off, but the throttle response was awful.

Through the gears and settled at 40mph in fourth. Eased the throttle, nothing. Floored it, revs start to climb lethargically. At this point I'm scratching my head so I stop the car. Turned the engine off, and all electrics. Turned the electrics back on and everything confirmed OK. Pressed the start button and the engine burst into life as usual, drove off and the throttle response was perfect, performance completely restored.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

I had this once...

I had taken the car into have her cleaned and when i got her back she acted just like your experiance.

I pulled her over, rang the dealer, and he told me to do the following.

Turn her off

Switch the ignition back on BUT DO NOT START HER. Wait for the "Check" light to go off.

Turn the Manatino switch to the "Ice" setting and wait 10 seconds. Turn the Manatino switch back to the "Sports" setting and wait 10 seconds. Turn her off and then turn her back on. After this "setup" procedure she was purring as normal.

The dealer said that sometimes the Electronics can get a little confused and can put her into a half icey and half sports mode.

Since then I have had no problems at all and leave her in "sports" all the time.

Hope this helps

It certainly does!!!

Mine had just been washed too.

I always wait for the "Check OK" confirmation anyway. Checked it twice since and the car is fine.

I really appreciate your post NORFE. Many thanks, I'll sleep better tonight thumbup

The car is driving at 40mph in fourth, I add more petrol to the engine, it's sluggish, so I add more....

What exactly could that have done to cause MORE damage? If the engine was so fecked that more fuel is going to cause major problems, it's fecked already.

You wouldn't have.

Dont worry as pointed out above it will just be the italian electronics playing around.

Now go and enjoy it smile.

I've had my 430 since November and I've just come to the conclusion that it's quirky, every now and then it just does something weird, you switch it off and back on again and it's fine. I've stopped worrying about it now smile

I think the OP was hoping for advice from a 430 owner with experience of this issue.

A friend's 430 did the same thing, and it was traced to a slightly weak battery (car hadn't been used for a few days and weather was v cold!).

Sure it was nothing more than one of those electrical Gremlins, possibly escaped from the Maserati R&D department during their collaboration.
See almost any Maserati 3200 thread for details smile
Mine needed a reset/reboot every other trip out for the first few months. All calmed down now.

Amazing how much information is freely available for these cars, once you start looking. Lots of "engineer tricks" to reset drive-by wire throttle, reset ECU and more.

No Problem....

So you had her washed as well.....it must be something to do with the jetwashers these places use. Maybe they clean the engine bay as part of the process and in turn this knocks out the electronics in a wierd way. The place i used is in solihull in the touchwood shopping center. its a big chain of car cleaners http://www.h20carvaleting.com/

Anyway I do her myself now...saves money & I sleep better knowing i have used some TLC on her....smile

make sure your fuel cap is on tight !! might sound daft but remove & refitt cap (check seal in cap) use battery disconnect for 20 mins to clear fault codes & start engine

Mine did this a couple of times. As some others have said "do a Microsoft" i.e. re-boot.

The last time mine did it, I hadn't held the start button for long enough. It turned over but didn't fire. Fired it again and the car went into a "limp-home" type mode. A re-boot cleared it.

Stop worrying, start enjoying. smile

Hmmm. Park it near a yew tree, walk round it three times whilst playing an Iron Maiden song backwards and always keep a black cockerel handy...

Thanks for all the advice on here, I seem to have done just about everything mentioned at the same time(apart from chanting the Iron Maiden song).

1. Had the car washed.
2. Put fuel in.
3. Let my daughter press the engine start button(I know, I know) which she let go of before it fired.

The car wash experience was everything that I've come to expect in the past few days of Ferrari ownership. I've been going there for ages and they know me well, but I've never had this reaction. They ushered me out of the normal queue and one of the lads who's been working their since it opened came over:

"Hi mate, how's it going? Listen, the products we use here are f*cking sh*t, but don't worry we've got some good shampoo for this. I'm not going to use any of the sprays, even on the wheels, it makes our job easier, but not for a car like this. Also the wheel dressing, I'm not going to use it, it'll get in the brakes and you don't want that."

The same guy never even blinked when I took my DB9 there.

I just opened the garage to get some docs out the car, and burst out laughing at the pleasure I got from beholding the beautiful creature. I LOVE this car!

Share the love, where are the photos.

Looking at your profile, I'd be more worried about the reliability of the RR than the Ferrari, but that's another story.

I don't understand, I've had the RR for nearly 13 months, and it's only spent 37 days in the workshop.

Admittedly there are 14 outstanding faults reported by the computer when I turn the ignition key, but I ignore those.

Photos coming shortly.
