As per my other thread I'm looking to get a toy for the summer.

Obviously buying at the start and selling near the end is going to cost me...

But on a £35k car - roughly how much ? Would £5k likely cover it if I bought privately.

Can you sell them privately or even at the lower end do most buyers want to go to a dealer ?

Could only Ferrari owners comment please as I can take a guess myself.

You might be better off asking in the Ferrari section if you don't want the thread to fill up with idiots like me who haven't owned one but post anyway. biggrin

5k may not be enough IMO
You will pay much stronger money at this time of year & good clean cars are very sought after..
If you buy a good one now then try selling it in say Sept/Oct not only will it need to be cheaper but you need to have spent some money on it getting it back to the condition you bought it in (wheel re-furbs/paint/tyres/service etc)
Keep it 12 Months, it will cost you the same money & 355's are great fun in winter too!!

Whoever you sell it onto will want it servicing no doubt, insurance, tax. Putting the little niggles right with the car when you buy it (and there will be some). First year is always the most expensive of ownership, in answer to your question it depends how well you buy, if from a dealer I'd say 5k minimum probably 7-8k.

depends on how much you drive it.
I've had mine for about 8/9 months now and c 6k miles. Drive it daily, London commuting and drove to the Continent twice.
replaced tires all round
new radio
new alternator
new exhaust manifold
new clutch
some little part broke and left me stranded

so far have probably spent c 4k on it. if you dont need the alternator and the manifold, that'll probably reduce to c 2k
now it will need to go in for a 6k service.
With regards to how much it'll depreciate, anyones guess, but as somebody else said buying before the summer and selling in autumn is probably going to increase the value loss

hope this helps

I forgot, 2 of my rims are curbed and I have scratched the part under the door due to hitting a kerb in a parking garage - so both of those things will need doing before it is in sellable condition.

I bought from a dealer, but would have also considered a private car had the colour I wanted been available privately.

I bought a 355 spider (red/crema immaculate example), kept it three years and made a small profit.

If you buy right it may cost you nothing. If you buy wrong it could cost you £'ooo's. Too many variables to say for sure; mileage, dealer/private purchase/sale, luck, etc
