...I've literally just transferred the deposit to the dealer for my F355 Spider biggrin It seems like even the weather may be improving now for me! After champing at the bit for what seems like an eternity (actually about 4 months), it's finally all come together after searching, seeing and lusting, and I'm now starting to get a bit hyperactive being stuck at work!

An Easter UK road trip and summer European one are already being planned, as well as the trip to HR Owen at the end of the month for their open day. My gf is now praying I might start obsessing a bit less about the whole thing. Unfortunately I think she may be rather disappointed wink

Good on you for making the move. I am another Porsche owner that feels like they need to scratch that Ferrari itch. Note that almost all Porsche owners i know that have made the move to Ferrari went back to Porsche??? Still, doesnt stop me from wanting to do it.

I think that there's a v good chance I'll be back in a Porsche at some point, most likely an older one I suspect or possibly a Boxster Spider in a few years. Had I not had a change in work circumstance and location, I'd probably still be in the C4S. I was given an excuse to change as I didn't want to do 80 miles commute per day in the C4S, so arranged a company hire car leaving me to buy a car purely for fun, so I kind of jumped on it. Next thing to do, using man logic, is to get rid of the hire car and buy myself a small fun and frugal commuting car as it will be cheaper than the hire payments. And of course running that and a Fezza will be cheaper than running just the C4S would have been....rolleyes......;)

This is the sort of stuff you could never get away with if you were married I think biggrin

If you want to hear a Capristo on a 355 let me know - a friend of mine is running one and is in central London. Be prepared to want one though!

Haha! Thanks for the offer. I was actually looking at jdw1234's car during my search and had a test drive and listen, and yes, they do sound very good and in theory I'd like one! Only problem is that it would mean I could not do any track days in the car which I really want to do, and I believe the standard exhaust just about passes noise testing. If it turns out that it doesn't, then I'll definitely have a look around for a Capristo or Tubi, most likely 2nd hand like jonty355, as if I'm being honest, IMHO not much change from £3k for a new Capristo is taking the royal pcensoreds !

He he he, you can tell you are a new F355 owner as you still think of a bill of £3k as big!!

You will love the car. Make sure you head to the continent ASAP!!

I see what you mean wink I just have this funny thing that I don't mind spending money if it's necessary on a car i.e. proper maintenance, repairs etc. But technically a sports exhaust is not necessary. I'd just be sitting there thinking that I could have paid for 2 years basic servicing or even bought another hot hatch to drive with the same money!

+1

Fellow Porsche owners go on about the "must have" PSE and how it makes the car, blah, blah. I personally could'nt care less if my Porsche had it or not and i certainly wouldnt give my OPC £3300 for the privilidge.

Paying an extra £3k for a Ferrari to sound like a.............Ferrari is a waste of money in my eyes. Friend had a Gallardo and i swear that the noise started to do your head in after a while.

Oh.. that must be why the majority of owners on here have an after market exhaust..

And so do the majority of Porsche owners on Pistonheads. My point is that i couldnt care less if it sounds a bit louder and i certainly wouldnt pay £2k+ for the privilidge.

I think the issue is simply some people don't like having the mick taken by dealers charging £Ks for an optional product that probably costs a couple of hundred quid to make. Most people I know prefer the sound of a sport exhaust on a performance car, which is why I got one for my Porsche. I went for a fairly "quiet" one that "only" cost about £600 in the end as I like to do track days, but otherwise I would have got someone to weld a bypass pipe on each muffler (which is basically all a PSE is, just with a valve which everyone mods to stay open all the time anyway) for a couple of hundred quid. If I was feeling minted, I'd get Oettle's setup, but regarding PSE: £2.5k for an exhaust on a car that only cost me £25k in total? You're having a laugh!

Come on - its not about sounding louder. It changes the tune completely. The factory have to comply with EU rules hence the original factory exhaust sounds rubbish..
All I'm saying, from personal experience, is that the 2k I forked out for a Tubi was the best money I've ever spent on the car. For me, it changed the whole driving experience. All IMO of course but I know many others agree.
