Nice Ron. Is there a link to a thread on the 'story so far' or anything?

Was that the Walkersport car? Looked like a great buy at the money it was offered at.

  • Yes indeed she is Cmurder's old car and the Walkersport car. It may be of interest to to you all, with me being on the other side of the earth, that I have not physically seen the car, let alone driven it. I have also broke rule number one in that I didn't get a pre-purchase inspection, thanks to forums such as this the car would not have lasted long. I also didn't tell the wife until three days after purchase, things were very chilly at my house for a few days until the wife's petrolhead gene kicked in.
There were so many potential invitations for Mr Cock-up but everything has gone smoothly.
  • So in the spirit of "The Oscars" I would like to thank:
Tim at Walkersport for proving that honest and ethical car dealers do exist.
The guys at Shiltech for patiently answering stupid questions.
Michael at AirSea Worldwide for getting it here without even the slightest drama.
& The Snow Storms that kept you lot safely home and not looking at Ferraris.

If you don't mind me asking what was the approximate cost for importing and compliance on the car?

Don't they have some "luxury" car tax in Oz for imported motors of something like 25%?

I lived in Melbourne for 4 years and drove a Holden all that time, now back in the UK with a Lambo where I belong smile

This is a little rough and the British pound has slipped since. Figures are in Aus dollars.

  • Car - $51,000
  • Transport/Insurance $5500
  • Duty (5%) - $2600
  • GST (VAT) - $5800
  • Luxury Car Tax - $2000
  • Compliance - $15000
  • Plus lots of port fees and of course rego
The Luxury car tax is 33% on amounts over approx. $57,000 and its a tax on the taxes as well. You pay all the taxes (but not compliance) and it is then applied.
On the road and in my garage the budget is approx $90,000 (about 54,000 UK). Sounds a lot? The cheapest advertised in Oz (at carpoint.com.au) at the moment is $135,000.

Never mind the figures I really, really, lustfully want one (and NOT in red)

Ron, out of interest, what does this entail?

Not certain of the entire list but includes new cats and ADR spec intrusion bars in the doors. The problem is there is only one accredited workshop for the 355 in Australia. So Compliance probably involves me bending over and bracing myself.

Hi Ron,

What state are you in? I was speaking to someone who imported a 355 some time ago, and the pain it was getting through the red tape. He was saying that QLD is a lot easier/cheaper, compared to getting it done in Victoria (which used to be one of the easier states years ago). I can put you in contact with him if you need any help/advice.

Hi Ron,

Get yourself over to the Australia forum as well, there's good folk there and some extensive posts about importing I'm sure you could both learn from and contribute to. Whilst mocking Australia's driving rules, attitudes and standards.

Cheers.

Welcome to NSW. Car looks stunning. Regularly see a red one in Newcastle and TBH I think the silver looks better.
