I don't "get" Pagani Zondas

Am I the only one that doesn't really think they're all that? Playing devil's advocate, my reasons are:
a) basically I think they're not that good looking on the exterior. They're not elegant a la Ferrari and they make a Lamborghini look svelte which is no mean feat. They just, to me, sort of look like a toy. Inside is not much better (from what I can tell from film/pictures, I haven't sat in one to be fair though)
b) their engines seem decidedly uninteresting - sure they're loud and powerful etc, but fundamentally AIUI it's just a stonkingly large merc engine with forced induction, so no real groundbreaking engineering ingenuity, unlike in manically revving NA Ferraris and Lambos which squeeze unfeasible specific outputs from V8/10/12s, or the first of its kind Veyron
c) no heritage, racing or otherwise
d) pricing. OMG, I do think they take the piss with that considering a to c above
I'll prob add other things as they occur to me
What am I missing?! Happy to be corrected on any factual stuff
Obviously I've never driven one, but surely the whole hypercar thing means that you should desire one, but they're pretty much the only one I don't give a fig about!

Personal taste in cars can be, and usually is, at times quite irrational.
And that can go either way, there are fantastic cars that leave me completely cold (most modern Ferraris with their tinny exhaust notes for a start), and there are, (technically) completely rubbish cars that make me weak at the knees!
I am a lover of Zondas, but if they don't flick your switch, then that's just the way it is!

Zonda F is pure car porn for me.
so I am the only one!Zonda F is pure car porn for me.

I guess for me looks wise the front isn't too bad, but in profile it looks like a wedge doorstop to me due to the back being quite high and flat. Not a fan of the exhausts either.
I can see what they were trying to do, just create a bonkers car (which you either like the look of or not), but that's just not enough for me. I mean, can it actually DO anything that other supercars can't? For example:
Ferrari - best engines in the world mated to 2wd handling in the world e.g. 599 GTB
Lambo - crazy looks and performance yet everyday usability and easy driveability
Maclaren - ground-breaking tech with their carbon fibre tub thing
I just can't see that Pagani really bring anything new to the party. That's not to say they're not great cars, they're just not in a league with the others.
Haha, I do love the fact that I'm trying to justify supercars using logic

Zondas don't use forced induction - all NA. Replacement will though, which I'm a bit apprehensive about.
I did and sort of still do have the same opinion Mark, however watching and hearing the Mclaren MP4's exhaust note with twin turbo's I'm hoping Pagani can produce a sufficent sound such as this, as opposed to the whistle of twin turbo exhaust notes!ZondaMark said:

Oops, my mistake. I just wiki-ed it. Still not massively impressed, less than 100bhp/litre for all but the engine in the R Clubsport, but maybe I'm being a bit harsh!Mario149 said:

Do you think they'll use the new 5.5 AMG Twin Turbo which they have just announced?Pretty much every manufacturer is going to end up going down this route now, due to the pressure on lowering emissions. I just hope they manage to keep them as vocally exciting as the current NA crop.
They're crazy cars, which you will like the look of or not. In terms of the engine then it has one of the best sounds I've ever heard. In regards to the engine then you could justify Scoobies etc for squeezing more power per litre than Ferrari etc.
One of the things going for them is that they're pretty reliable from my understanding, which compared to some other cars like this makes a change! There are also far fewer of them compared to many other modern supercars (we're up to around 114 currently, not including the R - compare that to the Enzo). Since the price has gone up on a lot of the earlier cars then I guess the overall opinion likes them, but each to their own.

Hush, you.
Regarding heritage, Horacio Pagani has been building racing cars since the late '70s, was close to Fangio, worked for Lamborghini as a designer during the '80s and is widely regarded as a master of innovation with new materials.

I just think that they have lost their way over the last few years. The early cars were gorgeous but I think Mr Pagani's perspective has been skewed by a few years of building cars for Russians with all the money in the world and no taste at all. Some of the colour combinations and interiors on some of them have been utterly repulsive.
The pi££ taking of the pricing is only matched by Koennigsegg.
If I was sending the best part of a million on a car I would either want some real herritage like a Ferrari Enzo or performance that other cars cant match like a Veyron.
That said in terms of stop you in your tracks, jaw to the floor, turn you into a 5 year old school boy not much else comes close.

+1. It's basically my "doesn't bring anything new to the party" argumentThe pi££ taking of the pricing is only matched by Koennigsegg.
