Interested in a Gallardo Spyder (2007) but have no idea what it comes with as standard nor what the must have options are.

Some seem to have 'lifting gear' but that sounds heavy and pointless unless you live in London (or among speed bumps).

I'm only interested in a manual car too. No interest in 'egear' whatsoever.

Can things like the extra carbon bits in the interior be retro fitted?

e-gear and lifting gear are the essential options for driving
but i guess you're just interested in the cosmetic stuff ?

The E Gear is wonderful ! Whenever im sitting in traffic it reminds me how pleased I am, E Gear is fun to drive too, Reverse Camera is usefull but visibility is not too bad, ( better than my Exige anyway ) Dont think they all have Sat Nav,

I have purchased in the last few weeks and my plan was wait until most of my requirements were met, for me in order of importance it was Colour,E Gear, Mileage, Colour of inside / Trim, Lifting gear, Calistos.

The first three were a must for me, The others I could have lived with options.

How does lifting gear add to the driving experience?

or egear for that matter?

both seem like being advantageous only when driving in London, a place I try and avoid at all costs.

It's a waste of a mini let alone a Lamborghini.

Nope. Still asking questions. I count two question marks on my last post.

I wouldn't mind an explanation of how lifting gear would enhance my driving experience in case I'm missing something.

Do people with lifting gear use it much? Ferries I guess would be another application. Any idea how much weight it adds in the nose? If it's significant it will affect handling.

Personaly for me....

Love the e-gear
Got lifting but I have only used it once to see what happened, I agree a waste if you're not somewhere with speedbumps and even then only if you don't mind looking like you're driving a motorboat!
Sat nav is usefull, bluetooth is usefull, reversing camera ditto.
Callistos look great.
Qcintura stiching is lovely

The actual options list isn't that huge, and from what I can see nearly all cars get specced with:

- satnav
- bluetooth
- winter pack
- rear camera
- premium audio

A lot of the options are around special colour combos, and wheels.

The carbon / leather / branding things are a bit more random of course. I believe it is possible to retrofit the carbon bits, though AFAIAA they are the plastic bits with a carbon veneer, not a carbon part (except the steering wheel and maybe the paddles ?)

Didn't lift gear become a standard item on later cars ? 2008+ ?

On the "wow, that's really quite pricey" list are the clear engine cover, ceramic brakes, and of course the fitted luggage.

thanks bertie.

very helpful.

But egear isn't for me even though it'll hold its value better (at the moment...)

anyone know what you get from a 'leather pack'?

Just to balance things up, HATE the e-gear and love the manual, why not enjoy changing gear yourself, or is that 0.5 seconds a lap worth giving it up for.... but I guess most are bought by people who like being looked at rather than driving... getmecoat

Sat Nav is a must have in my opinion, apart from the fact it’ll be easier to sell on it looks much nicer than the weird tape deck they stick in if you don't spec it. Reversing camera would be very useful as the visibility, in the coupe anyway, isn't great. The lifting system would be useful if you want to take the car into steep multi story car parks etc but if you don't then I wouldn't worry about it.

As for the flappy paddle VS manual thing it's totally up to you. I drive a manual Gallardo and a F1 430 Spider and they are both great. The paddle gearbox is very easy to use and oddly I find is best when you’re going for a trash, whereas most people tell you it's best around town. When I bought the 430 my biggest worry was that it would take away from the driving experience and if I'm honest it does in some ways but adds to it in others. At the end of the day it's personal preference so If you want a manual then go for it it's a great, smooth box so I doubt you'll have any regrets.

Manual is a joy to drive but that is a personal preference and lots of manual vs E Gear threads on here. The Satnav is useless (my £90 Garmin much better especially around Europe) BUT it makes the inside look far better than the alternative. Reversing camera is a joke and visibility especially with the roof down is fine. Lifting gear is again a moot point. I dont have it and never regretted it but if you live near speed bumps etc I guess might be useful. The branding pack looks good especially the badge on the passenger side. Wheels are again a personal preference but expensive to replace later. BTW you cant get the clear engine cover on the Spyder.
I hope this helps. Enjoy looking!!
PS yellow is best colour!!! (light blue touch paper and retire quickly!)

Lifting is optional - but if you ever envisage having to use multi-storey parking garages with ramps or going places with speed bumps then I would consider it as the Gallardo is seriously low at the front. Many options can be retro-fitted but at considerable expense, so decide what options you want and try and get a car that already has your preferred options. You will get no money back on the options you add when it comes time to sell.

E-Gear is personal prefference.
Transparent Bonnet is not an available option on the Spyder.
Lifting is handy, but as everyone has said, for day to day driving you'll not use it. Going to multi storey cars parks etc, steep drives....then it becomes useful.
There' not much if any extra weight as such, with the nose getting different front shocks, a control unit.
Reversing camera is rubbish, is like a fish eye lense with no perspective.
Again, all colours are good, with specific choices being personal. ( Yellow does look awesome ! )
From memory, all 06MY cars onwards come with RNS-E head units which, regardless of wether the car has Navigation installed from the factory of not, look indentical.
The nav system itself is fine, but by no means 'cutting edge'
Again as pointed out, many Garmin systems are more accurate, but can look a little out of place.

These cars are wants, not needs...
Go with your heart as well as your head.
If you want yellow, and a manual box, and it happens to have Navigation, Callisto rims and lifting, then great !
From a quick look at the classifieds, there would appear to be two nice cars, with sensible miles...
One is North of the Border ( where I bought mine ! ) and one in 'The South'

ENJOY !

Premium Audio has not, and is not an option.
Lifting has always been an option for Gallardo.

I was looking for Manual but ended up buying E-gear... Two weeks of ownership and I could not imagine going back to Manual, it is truly awsome!

Also when buying an 06+ car Callisto's would have to be high on the list for me, why have dated wheels! Not many cars on 06+ seem to not have these.

I know this debate runs on and on in here, but i've done many many miles in both Manual and eGear G-Spyders, both in London and out of it.

And i much prefer the manual. Call me a Luddite if you will, but i just enjoyed the manual shift more.

I wouldn't get one without Callistos and SatNav, but again thats personal preference.

Good luck with the hunt! Manuals are rare beasties these days...

Just my opinion, but F1 on Ferrari is great. eGear on Lambo is a little clunky (at least pre '08 LP). I have owned both, (currently G Spyder with Manual) and the shift is lovely, meaty and very organic. Ferraris tend to suite paddle shift due to their more manic nature.

So, if it were me, then I would have a manual G (especially a pre LP).

As regards options. Lifting kit would come in handy if you are driving around town and doing car parks, but if it's a weekend blast toy then not really essential. Carbon interior is superb. Camera is better than not. Wheels important and Calistos nice - especially if they're not silver.

When I was looking for mine I did not like the ally bottom steering wheel and got really hung up about it (too Audi for me) - in fact I rejected a nice car on that basis and regretted it. But then my car came along with awesome color (non metallic grey), great wheels, manual and superb value and yes the ally steering wheel and I went with it. - Never looked back.

So.... (here's the point at last). It's always a trade off of options against the physical cars there are for sale at any one time. No two cars are the same and each one has to be considered on their merits / options compromise.

I guess us guys who buy used always have that dilemma.

See lots of cars and don't get hung up on options. You might miss a peach.
