Changing the front of a Murci to 640 style and Wrapping
Discussion
Sold my Gallardo last year and having serious twitches about buying another beast. Wife says shell divorce me if I buy another Lamborghini, so it seems like a 2 in 1 offer I should take up.... Looking to buy an older Murci (04/05/06) but think the old front will look a little dated in a few years time. Ive seen a few older Gallardos with new lp540 fronts and rears on them (so they 'look new'), and just wondered
- had anyone done this before?
- cost?
- Est. cost of wrapping in a new colour?
Thanks,
Lord.

I've seen a picture of an old Murci with the LP640 bumper and I agree it looks much better. As for cost I haven't a clue. I would imagine you are looking at a good £4-5k + minimum just for the front bumper. If you wanted to replace the lights then they won't be cheap either.
If it's something you're seriously interested in doing I would give a Lamborghini a call and ask how much a front bumper for a LP640 would cost and then ask how much it would cost for them to do it al for you. I reckon your best bet would be to buy parts off a car that's been crashed/written off because I reckon that's the only way you can do this without it costing £6 billion.
Hope that helps.

I think "list" price of the front bumper cover alone is circa £9.5k!
So even if you get a good discount - by the time it's painted and on it will be a decent chunk of cash!
I am thinking about doing it to mine - but I dont think it will increase tha vlue of the car so its a sunk cost.

You could anways try someone like http://www.extreme-sportscars.com/murci/index.html they might do a replica LP640 bumper. If they did I bet it wouldn't cost a lot, then that way you could just keep all the original parts and swap them back when it came time to sell.
Or these guys http://www.allkitcars.com/lamborghini-murcielago-l...

I'll do a ring around to see what the 'real mccoy' will cost.
The dilemma is, do you spend c.80-90K on a 04/05' Murci, or wait a year and hope you can pick up a LP540 G for 90-100K...The latter being more 'modern' looking but may have longer to fall (depreciation wise)...

Lambo body part costs are telephone numbers!
As many know I did this to my 05 plate Murci a couple of years ago and heres the break down:Lambo body part costs are telephone numbers!
I only used original parts supplied by Lambo High Wycombe. They have done this before so know what they are doing.
Rear Light clusers - approx £2500 fitted
Front PU - £11k fitted and painted
Engine cover - £5k fitted and painted - decidd not to do it.
Hercules wheels - got from Europarts for circa £3k pre painted black - LHW swapped tyres over for FOC
......job done and looking So much better!
Neil
Neil,
I did the rear clusters but baulked at the cost of the front PU (even though I do think it looks the biz).
Do you think it was worth it in the end??
My struggle with it is that an 03 Murcielago is worth say £80k in the trade - an 03 Murcielago with an LP640 PU is worth say £82k?
The dilemna is that even with the front PU - the rear end isnt right - nor are the sideskirts/intakes.
Would the money be better off going towards a upgrade into an LP640??
To a degree I have the same problem justifying the cost of an upgrade to either an LP640 or even an LP670SV -
Is an LP640 (which lets agree is say a 10% better car than the original) worth me trading in my mint Murcie & say £90k? I don't think so?
Is an SV worth me trading in my Murcie and £210k ? No way - in my opinion. For £210k I can keep the Murcie and use the £210k to buy two other toys.
I think I will wait for the Murcie replacement - I dont think the values of Murcies are heading anywhere South soon - I think they have bottomed - there are a finite number in the UK and for circa £80-90k (the same as a "me too" big spec 911 these days) they represent awesome VFM and bang for the buck. The drama, noise, sense of occasion, and the "moving carnival" specialness that defines V12 Lambo's - means that the car is unequalled by anything other than it's more recent descendents.
My Ford GT (albiet very heavily modified) beat's it on pure performance per pound measurements - the CGT beat's it on noise (just) and technology - but as a whole package the original Murcie is still a very hard car to beat.

I used LHW/Graham when I had the Gallardo and would defo use them again for any work. I would agree that the old hercules wheels and the front are the biggest contributors to both recognising an 04' from an 08', and also the biggest contributors to the car looking 'dated'. Replacing Rear lights (basically a handful of chinese LEDs for 2.5K is harder to justify to the forever moaning wife)....
I also agree prices on both old Gallardos and Murcis and not moved much over the past 18months suggesting depreciation has started to level out somewhat; Gallardos at 55K, Murci's at 80K...
In 18months time I think you'd be looking at 45-48K and 65-75K respectively. I brought my G 04' and sold it 8 months later for the same price - sold it on day 1 aswell (8 calls in 8 hours), so if wasn't as if 'holding out' for the price....

Speak to RSC Tuning: stuart (at) rsctuning.com
they make the aftermarket LP560 front bumper for non-560 Gallardos, direct replacement. In the Gallardo the official Lambo bumper is not a direct replacement so the RSC bumper is a must.
I am sure I heard they are either making or developing exactly what you want for a Murci, so drop them a line. Helpful guys that I've taken an exhaust from for my Lambo..

It all makes sence when you are hooning the SV through Paddock or Copse, Maggots and Becketts.....And I'd imagine (soon to find out) that it'll hit close on 200MPH at the end of Kemmel straight (given that it was doing 185 before braking for Paddock at Brands) - and cant wait to see what happens at Blanchemont 1 and 2 (squeaky bum time, I think the phrase is).You know you want to....

As you know I have now changed my Murci to a LP640 Roadster - I wondered about how much better the LP would be but could never have guessed just how much better it is:
Brakes - no comparison! their now awesome
Handling - much, much tighter and crisper. The wants to show you how nimble it is where as the Murci didn't so much.
E-gear - much better than I thought. In 'Sport' its really very quick......and the down shifts!!!
So is it 10% better........ no, its 50% better at least!!
Hopefully see you all at the LCUK Annual Dinner.
Regards
Neil
