I'm strongley considering swapping my current 355 Spider for something a bit older, and easier to work on.

Has anyone done this before?

Am I going to be majorly disappointed when it comes to driving? Is the drop in power something I'm going to miss or does it make up for it by being an interesting car to drive?

How do the running costs compare?

If I'm looking to PX, does anyone on here have any recommendations as to where to look, ie specialist dealers or anyone on here considering a swap?

Is there anyone in the South Yorkshire area that has a 308 that wouldn't mind meeting up so I could have a look around one, and get an owners point of view on things to look out for?

Cheers in advance
Jonty

Don't be daft! You are already driving one of the all time greats.....get a 308 aswell and call it an investment! IMHO the the 308 is woefully undervalued but you would miss the 355 if you got rid!

Sadly I dont have the space or money for both, and I suppose it would mean having a bit more cash to spend on a daily drive!

Just put a louder exhaust on the 355 and keep it!

I think it'd be a good move (and you could bring it along to the Jenny Wren Charity Day when Justin pulls his finger out!)....the 355 is fabulous, but the 308's look perfect.....as far as a drive goes, I'm sure the 355 blows the 308 out of the water, but I think there is more to these cars than that!

I did that charity day a few years ago in the 355, had my ugly mug in the paper with it too! Been busy the following years, so not made it back since.

I'm sort of planning a nice garage that is more like a 1 car showroom if the house I have an offer in goes through ok. So it would be a bit of an art piece when not out being driven. So the classic looks may be more appealing in there.

Cheers Chas. Will look forward to hearing from him. I think I'll be able to cope with the drop in performance, since there will be less driver aids and maybe more feel to the drive. I suppose I should just try and get to drive one.

I've been the past couple of years - had a quick chat with you when you were there, perched on your car.

I think the 308 would be a good investment - Classic Car and a piece of Art rolled into one!

Hi Jonty,
as Chas said I went from 355 GTS to 308 GTS QV, for broadly the same reasons that u r mentioning.
I'd say that for 70% of driving the 308 was as much fun as the 355. The other 30% was mostly A roads and M ways where u miss the top end speed and torque.
What I liked was that due to it's age the 308 is less impacted by mileage on it's future value, and as u say it's easier to work on yourself.
Drop me a line if you want a chat.
Ross
