355 pleasant mpg surprise :)
Discussion
I spent Easter doing a 700 mile road trip to, through and back from Wales, and after doing the maths, it seems I averaged almost 21mpg and the lowest was 18.3 between fills (brimmed tank every morning), a very pleasant surprise
There was obviously a fair b of motorway involved, but the rest of it was giving it the beans on Welsh A/B roads with a decent smattering of town driving, so it's come wholly unexpected. For the final leg back to London from North Wales (which involved decent hoonage at points as well as slow-ish traffic), we got almost 24mpg! Top stuff.
On a similar trip last year in a 996 911 the average was only 26mpg for comparison...
What's the most anyone's ever seen out of their 355?

speaking of the light showing, the lowest i've ever had the gauge read is about a quarter full, and it only needed 45-50 litres or so to brim the tank. Just to check, the tank is 80-odd litres right? Does the last quarter then cover the last 30 litres?! In Wales I was a bit (unnecessarily) paranoid about getting stranded without fuel, but I'm guessing that at a quarter full by the gauge I still had about 100 miles in the tank. Does that sound about right?

I cannot better around 18mpg. That includes 70 mph in 6th gear with no more than 3000rpm showing on the clock.
In Europe, I tend to stick to the speed limits, religiously.
I managed 20.5MPG on my way to the south of France, around 80MPH all the time, and flooring it when exiting the Péage stations to about 130MPH In Europe, I tend to stick to the speed limits, religiously.

Over all, the consumption for the trip was around 17.5MPG
Also did a tank of 10MPG (Baux de Provence)
Since i've had the car, my average is 15MPG
That's a 5.7 V12 Diablo by the way

I also returned about 20 mpg on my trip to Malton on sunday, but even better on the way back yesterday on a trailer !!
The car won`t start but I think it`s because the ``Check engine light`` is not going out as it should before the car fires up ? The car turns over no problem but just will not start as if the immobiliser hasn`t come off ?
Anyone had similar problems ?

Ah, so you were the fellow 355 owner that had problems on Sunday then? The car won`t start but I think it`s because the ``Check engine light`` is not going out as it should before the car fires up ? The car turns over no problem but just will not start as if the immobiliser hasn`t come off ?

My Giallo F355 Spider crapped out on the A12 last May Bank holiday Monday with similar intermittent symptoms (turned over but would not fire). The RAC reckoned it was the Crank Position Sensor, but infact it turned out to be the Alarm ECU. A new one took 5 weeks to come from the Factory and was about £850 for the unit (£1216 fitted) at my regular main dealer. The main contributing factor may have been disconnecting the battery every 2 weeks for the last 5 years !. Have invested in a conditioner now.
Anyway..the truck back From Colchester to Winchester prevented me exceeding my mileage allowance :-)
BTW: averaged 17 mpg last year.

They are supposed to do 16.7mpg combined according to Evo. I've never checked mine... with the F355 petrol gives pleasure so I'm not so fussed, will check next tank though. Couldn't put up with below 20mpg for an everyday car though!

Are you using your F355 everyday then Mario? In which case I have great respect for you!

Yeah, the car is basically my "everyday" car i.e. I don't own another!, and I intend to do 6k-ish miles a year in it +++. I live in London so I don't use the car (or any car I've had) everyday as such as I commute by bike/train etc, but it does get used for everything else. Trips to ASDA are quite amusing
I've had it about a month and done about a thousand miles, so she's not a garage queen.+++ = seems like the best way to get value for money from servicing and the general consensus is that they seem to like being driven
