Hi all. Just considering where to take my 360 for it's MOT. I've used the same place for ages, however they always took my 993 on the road for a brake test, rather than the rolling road at the test station. I never did find out the reason why. I'm not so keen on the 360 being taken out by the tester, it's just me being precious, but there you go. Do you guys generally go through the main dealer, or specialist and thus to a station that may be more used to seeing these cars? Why don't all cars go on the rolling road, does this apply to the 360? Cheers.

Because they dont want to drive all normal cars. They're having you on and just want a drive of your car!

How are they meant to get a reading on your brakes for strength and balance by driving it?

I'm sure they'll no doubt insist on road testing the 360, but tell them to bks! In fact, dont go there again.

There is a machine which sits in the footwell which measures the g-force effect under braking, together with the drivers feedback on whether the brakes pull to the left/right. Is it something to do with cars fitted with an LSD that cannot go on a rolling road? Who knows, i'm totally ignorant on this i'm afraid. My Range Rover, which was tested elsewhere, was also taken on the road, I was told then that 4x4 can't go on the rolling road.

They even have them up here fella, my GT2 is to low to get into the rollers so they always use the footwell meter, they do it on there forecourt only has to run upto about 20mph.

I have had my 360 MOTed with no road test necessary. Car never moved from the workshop and I was present throughout so I believe it can be done without road testing. They even gave me readout of brake performance.

Thanks for that, I wasn't too keen on watching it being driven off the forecourt, Ferris Bueller springs to mind!!

cars fitted with a limited slip diff should not be tested on a rolling road ( driven wheels) , the other wheels can be. Outcome can be damage to the LSD. This is stated in the MOT process docs online.

I've just had my 360 MOT'd and the brakes were tested on the road, the meter they use is a Tapley meter. When mine was done I drove the car and the tester was in the passenger seat. It's nothing to worry about, most of the sport type cars I've owned have been tested this way, it's usually done like this as the car sits to low to go on the brake rollers.
The new type of brake rollers can test 4x4, to prevent damage to the diff they counter rotate the wheels as they test the brakes.

took my tvr to a guy and the brakes were tested on the rolling rd for the mot has no limited slip diff.
this year took it to a different garage and the guy just went to drive off to do the test without telling me.......until i jumped in and said no one is driving it without me being present, he said its ok ive driven cars like this before as he smashed it into reverse with a grinding noise.
Believe me at a regular garage that just sees run of the mill cars if anything tasty comes in it will get driven !
