Seen this done a few times, would you call it a fake, a replica or just a waste?

I don't quite understand this.

The 348 is a lovely car in its own right! Why would you change it to something it is not?

I don't really see a problem with this as long as the seller is honest. If I ever brought a 355 I would probably put 348 door panels on it because I love the side strakes. Its not really much different to putting 355 wheels on a 456. smile

For the amount of money spent doing the "conversion", surely the man could have just got a (bit more) of a loan and bought the real deal.

And can't you buy a decent 348 for £25k anyway?

Don't know anything about the car but this one is listed for less than £25k

Would be quite a lot of work to get the rear spoiler (where it kicks up at the back) I would have thought.

hmmm....could be. If loads of the panels were stuffed then the guy may have just taken the insurance money and gone for it

That type of conversion has been done for well over a decade now, never had a problem with it. Its not like taking a rare 330 and converting it into a TR 250 replica or the likes.
The attention to detail is better than i have seen. Usually they leave on the standard 348 mirrors, that cars go the 355s. But the biggest job of all is that they have changed the rear wings and engine lid. The 355 engine lid cant be fitted to the 348 and look good because of the tail end kick up (That has already been pointed out). That work in its self is one hell of a feat.
Like i said i have no problem with it because its done well. Although i like the standard 348s to and its somthing i would never do personaly.

I've just noticed that apparently it wasn't registered until 1999.

I think that's because it was imported from France, mentions it in the ad! smile

I guess the true die hards and aficionado’s will find it a sin but IMO as long as the guy is being open and honest from the outset then it’s not like he has put some ugly huge wide bodied kit on it that makes it look hideous!
I think anyone buying it would have to be sure that the panels were changed for the right reasons and not due to accident damage.

Well it's not my cup of tea and I wouldn't do that to a 348 but I have to hand it to the guy it does look like a pretty good "conversion". As someone's said already it's very accurate especially with the small spoiler on the engine lid.
