360 Modena 40/45 k£
Discussion
Guys,
i'm toying with the idea of selling my 993TT (factory X50 430bhp S specced) for a 360 Modena.
The aim is to drive through out the South of France, i.e. 5,000 miles in June.
The budget is 40-45kGBP for a Modena coupe (black or dark grey) with i guess 20-30kmiles on it.
1. your thoughts
2. is this a risky business
3. are Modena's reliable
4. annual maintenance costs
5. F1 vs. manual box
6. performance vs. 993TT 430BHP
Thanks...this is quite urgent as i have to decide within the next couple days wether or not to sell my 993 TT
note: would also consider a 550, so beautiful

I bought a Modena and to be honest I'm plesantly suprised with the performance. I've been out tooling around with mates in Turbo 911's and to be honest I don't think there's much in it, in a staright line the Turbo is awsome but cross country not much difference.
Black's a great colour and while I think the Porsche is a more complete car the Ferrari is more of an occasion. People seem to like Ferrari's which didn't always seem to be the case in my GT3.
Servicing at Independants isn't so bad and take everything you read on tinternet with a pinch of salt when it comes to cost.

I sold a 993 CarreraS last year for a 360 Modena. It's the best thing I ever bought, it's covered a faultless 6k miles since and is now due a service. It'll get a major for about £850 + VAT from my Independent. Go for it, they are just so much more rewarding than a 911, of which I've had many. And don't be put off by mileage. If you replace ball joints get the Hills Engineering ones fitted. Best of luck. If you want to chat about my ownership experience drop me a line, I'd be happy to help.
I had a 996TT and now have a manual 360 modena.
996 was slightly faster than 360. However 360 is so much more special. It is a joy to drive and I don't miss my 996 at all. A manual clutch on a 360 should last 40,000+ miles whereas an F1 (from what i've been told) lasts around 10K!
If it's a 2nd car & your looking to drive something special with a 'sense of occasion' get a 360.

My father is in the process of swapping his 1yr old 997 C2S Cab with PDK for a 360 Spyder having lost 30k in 12 months and 1500 miles. He still has the 911 and seeing them together yesterday, the 360 has so much more presence, made the 911 look rather dull. In terms of performance, he says the 360 seems slower in some respects but the sound and the driving experience make it a very special encounter. Being an Aston owner we always banter back and forth and with his Porsche, IMO there was no comparison but sitting my Vantage next to his spyder yesterday, I almost felt the ferrari had more presence but looking a pic he sent me, im not sure...

ThreeSixtyM : my current car is a 993 turbo X50 430bhp (w/ brand new turbos) in top top shape: you don't think the Modena will feel slow compare to it?
Hi, The 360 is 400bhp, so is not a slow car by any stretch of the imagination. Floor it through the gears up to 8500rpm and you'll find out! Each to their own I guess, but for me there is no comparison for a spend of £45k. Just as an aside; I broke all the rules with my 360, after getting tired of seeing rubbish for sale at the dealers. I bought privately, with no inspection or warranty, although the car did have a first class service history. It has been used throughout the freezing winter with no issues at all. Every drive is an occasion and peoples reactions have always been positive, unlike the Porsche. There are bad ones around just as there are bad 911s, buy with your eyes open. And when it's not being used I get to look at it standing still. I went for a manual car (in black) rather than the F1 having driven both extensively. The F1 may be slightly quicker but that's not the be all and end all. I'd also concluded that the manual cars were likely to be more robust in the long term and yes, the clutches do last considerably longer!

My car will be up for sale next week for 55kGBP as soon as it is back from specialist:
Alone this year it has had the following done:
- new discs/pads 200miles ago
- refurb brakes
- new tyres 200miles ago
- new sport 100cell cats
- RSR exhaust boxes
- refurb turbos
- top end gasket (oil leak free)
- new bushings all around
- new front wishbones
- new eibach springs and bilstein
and
- 3 oil changes
- 48kmiles large service
My goal is to sell it by end of May, and if so purchase a black manual Modena by first week of June and off I go for a 5,000km South of France trip. Keep it for the winter and switch back to Porsche 997GT3 next spring (I think more user friendly as a daily drive in London)
If I don't sell it, I'll keep the Porsche until next April and switch to a white 997GT3.
Just want to do the Ferrari thing once in my life, and as I am on 3months gardening leave right now, I thought it was the perfect opportunity.
Any suggestions welcome
