Hi all,

I bought my fist ferrari in Febuary this year. It's a late 2003 360 spider, manual transmission with 13K. I bought from Simon Furlonger who were first class in terms of helping me through the process. I had always wanted a manual gearbox..I'm a traditionalist and just love the look and feel of a manual transmission. The car has a full service history,, they gave it a full annual service before I took delivery and it's having the cambelts done in August. Very soon after taking delivery it developed a problem from 5th into 6th gear. Basically, at cruising speed and above 3000 revs it will not shift into 6th..low speeds and revs is fine. They took the car back (for 5 weeks!) and said they couldn't find the problem..they are going to have another look in August when doing the cams (it has a warranty)..i feel that they probably didn't really try the change up to 6th at higher speeds..I have had an experienced ferrari driver in the car and he's had the same problem..Has anyone encountered a similar issue or can anyone give me some decent advice on what the issue might be..i don't want to lose the car for another month in August so any advice that might help solve the problem would be greatly appreciated...Thx in advance

I had issues with my 360 at higher revs and initially I changed the bush in the gearbox which made no difference at all. It turned out to be the thrust bearing seals which while only a cheap part (about £30 or £40)actually worked out expensive because the labour is the same as removing the clutch.
You need to insist they investigate it properly because when it goes it will go all at once and you'll be stuck.

several things can cause an issue,

1) the linkage runs past the cats on the O/S rear of the car, the linkage can dry out and need lubrication.

2) Linkage bushes can wear, - best replace with Hill Engineering ones, this a one time only issue if done this way.

3) like sone already said, but best to try the first two options as they are cheap, quick and easy.

Mines best described as 'notchy' between 1st & 2nd, especially when cold but even when fully up to temp still sometimes have to double clutch and ram it into 2nd.

It's going in next week for cam belts & annual service - while it's there I am having the gear bushing/bracket replaced with a Hill Eng one and am also having the gearbox oil changed for redline oil.

Fingers crossed this oination fixes it - I'll let you know how I get on

Good point is the gearbox oil a job you could do at home or is it a dealer job.

Don't know ... guess its relatively simple, but I'd personally get it done at dealer - guess it's quite important to get the right amount in.

Only got the car back today, but seems MUCH better having had the gearshift bush and redline oil done.
