I keep looking at the BBI currently for sale at DK Engineering. At the moment I have a 308GTB QV and love it, clearly a very different car (and price). As I ponder this more I would welcome thoughts/views from you guys. Any owners out there? thoughts on what its like to own & drive a 512BBI, thoughts on desirability, market view etc.etc. Any input greatly received.

Thanks, CMD

Bored of the 308 already hehe

A fantastic drivers car, with the same things to look out for as a 308 + a few others . . . . . . . . like the testarossa that followed it, the transmission is a weak point, with many updated to use later (stronger) parts, servicing costs can be rather eye watering as can spares parts, as there were far less made than the 308, it may take a fair bit longer to find the perfect car . . . . . . . but that sound would more than make up for it cloud9

Compared to the Daytona it replaced, BB's are a bit of a bargain

Ferrari Spider, thanks for the very useful links.

Andrew W-G, definitely not bored with the 308, I drive it most weekends (when its not raining) and its great. If I get a BBi my plan would be to keep the 308. I know they are V8 versus V12 but given similar era, design etc, I guess my real question is how similar are they to drive. Anyone out there who has owned/driven both?

Not driven a 512 BBi before, but those 14'' plastic wheels on the Rover 214 are gorgeous.

BBi? Correct me if I'm wrong but I think this was Fezza's first stab at fuel injection in a road car. Something of a bd child in between the well developed and more powerful BB512 and its replacement, the unloved Testarossa, and the beginning of Ferrari's big push into the States. The gem, of course is the rather more raw BB365.

Try and go for a carburettored one if you can. cloud9

Why is it that most of the vehicles have been converted to single colours? If I were looking for one then it would have to be original - twotone (very 70's) no front splitter additions, and foglights concealed.

It's a flat 12, not a V12, just FYI.

Maybe, but Ferrari have always described it as a 180 degree V12 wink

Read somewhere that it is a 'flat-vee', which indeed, it is!

It has a V configuration crankshaft, it does not have a boxer type crankshaft.

Edited because I pressed the wrong button and cut short my reply!

Ignore the nonsense on the what type of 12 cylinder variant it is and just go and buy one. They are epic. Tiganut on here and Club Scud has a BB and its stunning. I love it.

Both of our cars were at Dunsfold last weekend

I'm affraid I have no first hand experience with the 512bb infact i've never even seen one! I think even today it still looks great although i'm guessing it would be very dated to drive (just a guess I don't know) but the who cares!

I've seen one once. Fantastic, lovely bit of kit and my dream car as a kid. The only car in my Top Trumps Supercars that could compete with the Countach.

A Little bird told me that they can be mildly costly to maintain and a nightmare if you get the wrong one..Ive been keeping an eye on them for a bit.Next best thing to a 288 in my opinion.Still got that real ferrari smell about them, if you know what I mean.

They also seem down a bit this year, price wise ,compared with all the other stuff which has gone up in comparison to a year and 2 years ago..
