Hi guys,

I am in a bit of a pickle here. My mother just came back from Italy today and said she saw the new GTO in a petrol station just outside Ancona in the mid-regions of Italy. She then mentioned it was an open top convertible car confused

She described it as very big, full convertible, no disguise, bright red, she claims GTO was on the back, sounded like a 'pneumatic drill' and extremely loud, car swamped with people when it pulled up with two men sat inside. She tells me it was a 599 GTO convertible...

My mother is pretty good with cars and pays an interest in them (she has driven a few exotics such as an F430, Maserati GTS etc.) so I will take her word for it. Anyways, her friend took some pics of it on a digital camera and should get the pics tomorrow hopefully and post them here.

I pray this doesn't turn out to be an embarrassment and it turns out to be a 16M or a California or worse a replica but I have a weird feeling she saw something special yesterday...

Doubt its the GTO. There's been no news of a convertible version. Must be the California or something?

Did she say whether the roof was up or down?

If the 'roof was up', could it be that she saw one of the press 599GTOs, as they are red with the black roof?

Just a thought.

No, she said it was a fully blown convertible, top down, with two guys sitting inside. I run through some of my model cars and magazines and it wasn't an F50, or a 458 Spider or a 16M or anything. She said it looked exactly like the 599. Perhaps she saw a 575 Superamerica or a 550 Barchetta?

Should be getting the pictures today though.

Wow, looking forward to seeing what's coming.

But the older 550/575 look nothing like the 599 really, if she knows her cars a bit as implied it's very unlikely she'd get those confused.

Could just be a California as there is some resemblance between the two, of course that doesn't explain the GTO side of it, and also the massive attention.

At least your mum shows an interest in cars, doubt mine could even tell a Ferrari from a Lambo without seeing the badge

Although your mother was indeed confused. It seems that they are releasing a 599 spider:-

There will be a new 599-derived soft top, but it will be very special, very rare and 'for collectors'. Think 550 Barchetta or SuperAmerica successor. It will also have a name that will surprise us, apparently. A 'romantic name'

Just looked through your profile and image bank of Supercars - Great stuff. I had never heard of Bob Forstner dealership? Anyway, great stuff.

Yeah Bob Forstner is one of the most exclusive supercar dealerships on the planet. Its still in the development phase but when the UK branch is launched prepare to see some nice stuff in there. At the moment they have a carbon Zonda F, Zonda S, recently sold a Zonda F CS, Koenigsegg, Spyker, Lamborghini etc.. Exciting stuff biggrin

I had a look around Bob Forstner Park Lane on monday. Some awesome kit in there.

Incidentally, if you want this:

"I wish to become a prestige sales specialist for a high end car dealership somewhere."

You may want to get a haircut. Not being arsey, just realistic!
