Hello from a distant cousin - R8 Spyder
Discussion
Hello All,
As per usual first posters,I have been "lurking" around here for some time reading some great posts and I like the banter people have here, but never really taking the dip until now.
I decided to make my first post here rather than the Audi forum on Piston heads. To me it seems the Audi forum deals mainly with A3's and VW cars ( no offence to anyone reading this!). And not somewhere i thought i would get any good replies from and I don’t think I have read many posts from R8 Spyder owners.
I picked up my car yesterday and well, drove it all about 1 cm in the dealership hand over garage before i got it placed on a trailer to get a full body cover/ protection (not that matt cover).
So I have no input on how it drives other than well, there is no “creep” function on the car, it moves off quite smooth and handles excelent on ceramic garage flooring!( from what I could tell.) The sound is epic though but, prob a wasted comment here, after reading about what sort of exotica people have on here.
I should( fingers cross get the car back Friday) in time for a weekend of fun.
I do hope that the Lamborghini cousins on hear don’t mind a distant family member sitting down for the preverbal Sunday lunch!
Pictures were taken on a Blackberry so quality is a bit off.
I have no plans for any modifications other than putting on a private plate.

Thanks Matt & Peter.
Matt:
I was offered a great deal on a 1 year old Gallardo which made me look closely into the option (which was less than i paid for the R8)
There were a number of reasons; one was running costs, which were higher than i wanted to pay tbh.
Second, i feel the Audi suits my lifestyle better and I’m patient enough to go the next step in the future rather than go straight to a lambo now.
Also living in central/ NW London put me off leaving such a car around the town. As i think it would attract a different type of attention than an R8 would.
I've never driven a Gallardo so my choice was not about driving ability or performance.

Have to admit that i didn’t rate the R8 that was until i did a track day at Silverstone in the new R8 V10
Having had a Gallardo i was really interested to drive the R8 in anger around the track and was slightly worried they would be telling you to take it easy.
Did the full day at Silverstone and came away with nothing but the upmost respect for the R8.
Congrats on the purchase, hope you get to enjoy it this weekend i bet you must be itching to get into it.
Would seriously consider it over the Lambo next time for sure

A friend of mine picked up his V10 Spyder (also in black...) a couple of weeks ago, which he took me out for burn in over the weekend.
I have to say, I thought it was absolutely sensational. The noise was superb, probably worth the asking price on it's own...... And the look.... much more menacing and imposing than I imagined. Seemed to get a huge amount of <positive> attention with one guy in Marlow literally sticking half his body out of the open window to get a proper look. I didn't expect that.
It struck me very much as the supercar that could actually be used every day - so quite Porsche'esque in that respect.
Lovely car - congratulations.

And I have to say that I think this forum is categorically the right forum for this car.
But conversely not for the R8 V8 Coupe...!?
I think this forum should be open to all R8 owners, V8 or V10, it would be handy to learn about mechanical comparisons between the Gallardo and R8 for us poorer Lamborghini owners who would prefer to pay for less expensive but equally good quality Audi supplied parts than the more expensive exact same parts supplied by Lamborghini. But conversely not for the R8 V8 Coupe...!?

- love that. Great intro! Looking forward to hearing more about it....
