The main cooling fan on the car does not seem to be kicking in when stood in traffic. luckily last time I used the car I'd get moving again before it got too high for comfort. Is the one that would also run whe the engine is off but ignition on when above a certain temp.

Anybody know if this is a common fault and if its an easy fix?

Mate, check the fuses.
Failing that, replace the temp sender.

After that, I am out of ideas.

Where abouts is the temp sender? And which fuse box is the fan fuse in?

(ETA: sorry for not knowing, usually I'd check in the maual, but I'm in the middle of moving house so its burried under a million boxes somewhere)

There are two fuses mate (LH&RH) There box is under the passenger foot well, under the carpet. On the back of the cover it tells you which is which. A blown fuse on the RH side fan on the 355 is a very common occurrence mate.

Also, the LHS (nearside) fan is controlled by water temp). The other one is controlled by oil temp (IIRC).

Oil cooler on the LHS (N/S) along with secondery water rad. Primery water rad on the RHS (O/S).

The oil cooler is on the offside. You can see the pipes running into it. The nearside has a water rad and the A/C rad.

Yes it is/ was the nearside. Final conclusion was that the wire was broken inside the plastic so the primary fan did not always come on when it should, one of which was just after we got off the A28 at Le Mans. By the time the secondary fan cut in, it was too late to stop it overheating.
