I finally bought a Maserati
Discussion
After spending too long - probably 7 years - checking the classifieds and thinking about it and then talking myself out of it, then thinking about it some more I did the only sensible thing and bought the first one I saw.

This was going to be my sensible every day car for going to the shops, doing the school run, taking bric-a-brac to the church fete. After two days that may have been a little over optimistic as I am still in the stage of thinking it wants to kill me.
First problem has been a flat battery the day after I bought it - my fault for sitting in the car I think with the aircon on but not the engine, fiddling around with everything. Seems fine after a few hours driving to charge it.
This has always been a useful forum to browse, and although I haven't added anything to discussions in the past, thanks for all the info in the previous 7 years.
As a friend of mine commented: "let the maintenance begin..."

Splendid! Enjoy in good health. Looks like a nice machine. Whadya mean you feel its trying to kill you? It hasn't even rained yet
you wait 'til you drive it in the wet! Remember, the traction control is there for a reason (it really isn't a great idea to switch it off unles you are closely related to the likes of Fangio) and I am sure all will be well. Enjoy. PS, whats the spec.?

I am still definitely in the getting used to it stage but at the moment it feels like it just wants to be doing 150 mph every where. A lot of the use I have put it to in the 2 days I have had ir so far has been the commute to London which is hardly a good test, but a 500 mile road trip this weekend to North Wales should help me settle in.
I may be being a bit of a girl here but after having this I am beginning to wonder, sacrilegious as it may be, just how much extra power does anyone need?

These have one of my favourite engines I've ever had the privilege to drive. They're the defining characteristic of the car for me+++. The V8 loves to rev but still has bags of torque at sensible rpm. I came out of a Honda S2000 into a 4200 CC, was the biggest shock of my life! Do watch out with the traction control etc, when giving it the beans mine would spin up the rears going from 2nd to 3rd on mildly damp road even with it all switched on.+++= [flamesuit] If I could, I'd transplant one into my F355! {/flamesuit]
The child in the passenger seat is the reason it has taken me 7 years to getting around to buying it!
I drove it to North Wales this weekend and did around 250 miles on Saturday and it didn't miss a beat. I don't feel like it wants to kill me anymore and am slowly getting over the trepidation of waiting for something to go wrong with every miles.
Try as I might I can't get the mpg much above 20 - it seems you only have to look at the accelerator to knock another 3 mpg off.
Thanks for the comments. It is everything I expected it to be and it can be a perfectly civilised long distance cruiser when it wants.

If you have cruise control, setting this certainly helps with the MPG. At 60mph I return 24mpg, but you don't really buy it to sit at 60 do you?
What stereo does yours have? Mine is the standard system without the 200 upgrade and I have to say it was rubbish. Interested to know what you think of yours.

with cruise at 85 ish I would see 21 occasionally but I agree life is too short to just cruise at 60.What stereo does yours have? Mine is the standard system without the 200 upgrade and I have to say it was rubbish. Interested to know what you think of yours.
I think mine just has the standard stereo plus a CD changer in the boot but I haven't really investigated it much. Compared to the stereo in my Elise it is premium, but that is not saying a lot as you never get to hear that one above 50.

I bought my Gransport 6 weeks ago. Supercar Sunday at Gaydon was our 1st decent trip, 260 mile round trip, best drive ever.
100 quids worth of super unleaded though
How do you reckon it compares to your XKR? That is another car I would like to try one day.100 quids worth of super unleaded though

I reckon I will get around 400 miles at a very big push out of yesterday's £93 fill up, but that is around 200 miles at 80/85 on a motorway.Any bit of normal road driving, where the odd blast is far too tempting, and you can forget about mpg starting in the twenties.
Fantastic, though. Thanks for all the comments.

A lovely car it is the 4200, i test drove a 2004 model a few weeks agao, lighting fast and the gearbox was ( apparently the same as the 575 box !!!!! ) very fast and the car indeed is very fast , i have been contemplating to swap it with my 996 carrera ( with Porsche sports exhaust, Porsche sports suspension and lots of Porsche extras , some rather rare) and have the Maser instead , havent done the swap, though i am so tempted for the 4200 i must admit, i have the brochure right next to me right now ....
A lovely car and i am sure you will enjoy it , i think the Maser is aristocrautic
