Unwanted Feeling in a 360............
Discussion
Hi All,
I wasnt really sure what to call to call this Topic. Now that ive almost finished my project (700hp Honda Accord Type R) ive been working on for the last year after my EVO 9 was nicked, and ive now over the 25 year old insurance barrier, ive started to look at the car i always had on my wall as a kid. Ferrari F355. However im thinking of getting a 360, i prefer the 355 looks, but the 360 just seems new inside, newer overall, technology etc.
Im not in a position to buy one yet, but my mate told me he would take me in his 360 F1 to warm me up alittle.
So i gladly jumped in and off we went. Without getting into how well he drove the car, the thing that bothered me were the looks of "hate" from other people, drivers, people walking by.
We came behind a 4x4 coming from a country lane and my mate was coming down the box and the noise was awesome. We came to the junction and the 4x4 wouldnt let us turn left, just held in the middle to turn right, but then didnt move, just looking in his re-view mirror and mouthed of at us. He soon moved once my mate became aggressive.
On we went with the drive and just driving and i saw a bus waiting to pull out, i said to my mate, he is going to go for it, and instead of pulling out, he pulls out half way!! We were not driving hard or anything at this point, and the bus driver is half in our lane and stops the bus! Then starts waving his hands at us and mouthing off.
It just seems that know one wants to see anyone in a nice and shinny red Ferrari.
My mate said it has been key'd a few times also and he hardly uses it because everyone thinks your a prick, yet when he is in his silver Bentley GT everyone comments on how lovely the car is.
Over all the Ferrari was great. It put that smile on my face, like i was 12 years old. The noise, the downshifts, the kick in the back from the hard upshifts, it felt really planned also, only a few tailslides, but it felt really well balanced, all in loved it.
Only thing was the experience was over shadowed by the hate of others. It ruined the feeling of going out in a Ferrari if thats how your treated.
Is this really the way it is if you have Ferrari?

Have had my car for about a year and drive it every day, so far I have not encountered any hate/hateful stares or similar (at least none that I was aware of). The only comments ever made were nice or questions (eg asking to swap cars). Might have something to do with my car being a silver 355 - less in your face etc etc
Hope this helps

Yes it can be like that, there can be much hate from the natives in the UK. Although that's mainly in the UK, in main land Europe the attitudes are much much different. Much more positive to wards you in a Ferrari. I take my ferraris there often and get nothing but positive attitudes and thumbs ups.
Its an English thing i find, if your not being targeted by ricers or tvrs, your targeted by nasty sods. You will also get the comments like, "i prefer a Porsche" ect ect. Its like they want to hurt you in some way because you have some thing they never could.
Yep the UK can be a hostile environment towards ferrari owners.

Sounds very strange, I've had my 355 for a year and only ever had positive reactions.
I can only imagine it was just bad luck or could have been slightly influenced by the way your friend was driving it (only you know the true answer to this)?
If you want one, get one, you won't be disappointed and as I'm certain all who have them will vouch, if people do notice, the majority of the time it's only ever positive (as long as you don't live in or take it through a "getto"
).

ETA: [tongue-in-cheek]Maybe they were all well educated and were simply trying to suggest that your friend should have bought a 355 and not a 360!![/tongue-in-cheek]

Id honestly say he wasnt abusing it when the bus decided to have a dig, and we came up behind the 4x4 speed on a country lane but slowed down well before we got anywhere near him, causing no issues.I can only imagine it was just bad luck or could have been slightly influenced by the way your friend was driving it (only you know the true answer to this)?

I would get a red one, always wanted one.
I live in Shropshire, so not to ghetto. lol. Quite a few Ferrari's / Lambo's etc, but they rarely come out. My mate did say if he is in Manchester or Cheshire its perfectly fine.
Oh the 355 imo, looks better and sounds better with Tubi and straight pipes, than any 360 combination ive heard. Just that true sound. But the 360 is alot newer and still and awesome car so i think im more inclined to go for the 360.
Had a GT3 as my last toy and went mostly without comment or notice of others. 360 different story all together, 99% positive comments and 1% tossers who I couldn't care less for an opinion anyway. I had a lad say "you should have bought a black one" to me, what colours yours I asked, knowing he had probably a bus pass in his pocket.
Are you sure it's not Paranoia or just over aggresive driving. Not saying it is but just a thought.

I'm starting to wander if its a generational thing. Kids seem to love it, adults can be alot more nasty, I find that really wierd.
I ventured into an unknown area trying to find somewhere to park, accidentally ended up in a council estate type of place with lots of flats.
Realising I can't park there I start turning around, bunch of kids come running out of a house all excited asking me to blip the throttle etc. Mother followed apologising and asking them not to touch etc. All very pleasant, few throttle blips and questions answered they were happy.
I end up finding somewhere to park down the road, as I'm leaving the car same kids walk past and say hello, followed by the father who shouts out "I'm going to key that" as walking past???!
What a t
t, I wasn't going to say/do anything with the kids present (unlike him it would seem). Didn't move the car on purpose, it was fine when I came back and I guess if it wasn't I knew where he lived.

Do you drive down Nine Elms in the morning to Elephant & Castle round about? I pass a silver 355 most days as I'm going the opposite way.. sometimes in the 360.Hope this helps

It's the UK jealousy thing I am afraid. It's a very sad reflection on what a horrible bunch of people inhabit our country.
Get it now and again with the TVR as well, I've had people enquiring as to whether or not I'd like coffee, whilst I'm just cruising along a DC in the inside lane. But in the main you will get nice comments - especially from kids IME - "nice car mate" is a common sound as you drive past. It's the 20-35 year old blokes who are the most offended by your having a better car than them....

If you are worried about the comments dont get one just yet. I am starting to look for a 360 spider and will go yellow or red only but I am totally extrovert and love the in your face of these cars. Sod em I say just dont leave it too long in dodgy areas, like over 20 seconds!!! I had a yellow 911 which almost did the same trick. Monday to Friday I drive a 2001 Diesel Galaxy!!!
I've got a red 360 spider in Manchester, and the reactions are quite mixed, on the whole positive. Get a lot of good reactions at petrol stations from a) kids b) middle aged men. Kids are always great, whether its the primary school kids or the teenagers on bikes. Get the odd heckle as I drive around town, a few people taking pictures. On the whole, women don't really give a stuff about the car as you drive past. I've had it keyed three times in 21 months of ownership and I'm reasonably careful where I park it.
My other car is a yellow lamborghini gallardo, and the reactions are totally different. Everyone wants a picture, everyone films the car even at 70mph on the motorway. People drop to their knees, salute, scream out. Everyone smiles and turns round to look. Kids go crazy for the car, asking a million questions, loads ask for revs. Get ambushed at petrol stations all the time. I don't think I've had a bad reaction so far, apart from the odd person (usually builders/white van men) who jokingly heckle and gets heckled back! Girls go crazy for the car, absolutely crazy.
I don't know what it is about the red ferrari, but it must trigger some form of resentment in some peoples minds. Whether its to do with the F1 team, Michael Schumacher, or its just the general anti-Porsche driver view that extends to Ferrari. It doesn't make sense.
I think the consensus amongst SOME adults in the UK is that Ferrari drivers are arrogant, smug, think they are above everyone.

Never ever forget their are a lot of as5h0les in the world, it will never change so dont let it catch you unaware. Been assaulted in drivers seat, not nice, new teeth, wires through gums etc etc, happened along time ago but i learned alot from that.
Never even claimed compensation even though i still have visible damage etc, 14 years ago though
