Hi,

I have been looking at buying a Gallardo for over 1 year now.

I am based in Ireland and there is 1 for sale here (and it is actually located in the UK www.descullencars.ie).

Firstly, I have noticed that prices have barely moved if any in the past 12 months on Gallardo's.

Secondly, I had looked at buying a F355 and keeping it for a year or two until the Gallardo's came down in price but the maintenance on the F355 is way too much and I even more reluctant to go down the F355 route having read a thread here on F355's and their yearly maintenance. What are Gallardo's like to live with re maintenance costs. I know clutches are expensive. From reading a buyers guide they say they are very reliable and can be driven every day and are not massively expensive to maintain?

Thanks in Advance.

Had mine for 6 months, no drama's so far, loving it and use it almost every day (not because I need to, but because I love driving it).

Prices are rock solid on them right now, if you are considering one then get it bought, I think they are going to hold fairly nicely for the near future!

I will have to sit tight for a little longer until they come down... smile

Youll be waiting for years for that exact combo- better to buy another colour and get it wrapped in orange. £2K will get you a decent wrap.
Cheap Gallardos will hover around the 50s for sometime to come imho.

Hi,yeah give that a go,you never know ,the owner if they have had it for the 5
years mentioned might be looking to upgrade to a newer one.
I was looking last dec, most 04`s were around high 50`s.
The word was these would rise in price by spring/summer.
And yep they seem to go for 62k plus.
Seems around a year ago there were a lot of owners that had to get rid
of their toys due to the economic thing.
This spring they just took off, they go like hot cakes.
It got to the stage where you had to consider putting a deposit on a car over the
phone,if you left it till you were avaiable to view it would be long gone.
About the cars, well i just love my 04,and like most they probably get better
each model year.
I love working on cars so i save a lot on maintainance,i dont get a rubber stamp
in my book though.
The only reason i would sell my car is to maybe buy a newer Gallardo, but for now it`s
not going anywhere.biggrin
Keep looking mate, your car is out there somewhere.
cheers biggrin

I've had my car for about a year now, done just under 10,000 miles and it has cost me including fuel around £11000 to run. This includes 2 sets of tyres, 2 services (a minor and a Major) and a new clutch. And a few little bits and bobs. So if you dont include the clutch about £7000 a year to run. It has been the most reliable car I have ever had (Touch wood) but isn't cheap to run if you use it as an every day car. Also I think it is very important to keep on top of any small niggles the car may have.

My 6 months have cost me nothing so far.

However I know my car is in need of a clutch and also I have a cracked pad causing brake light, so will need to get that taken care of too, and then of course a few months time there will be a service.

So I reckon after 1 year I should account for another set of tyres too, and I could be at around £5k-6k after 1 year of ownership.

The next year would be a little less assuming nothing major goes wrong as I would hope the clutch is going to last me smile

They are not as expensive as some would make out as long as you get a well cared for example.
I have had mine for 18 months now (07 spider with e-gear) and apart from servicing and a set of tyres / fuel it has cost me nothing.
I never keep my cars this long normally but this one has me hooked !
Go get one, happy hunting.

Tony.

Prices have firmed by about 6-10% since December last year. Missed out on a car in January and probably could have made a small profit now....smile

agree, bought mine last June and it's gone up perhaps as much as 15%.

Admittedly not done that many miles but cost me next to nothing so far.

A minor annual service for £400 and that's it apart from fuel, insurance, road tax etc...

I'm pretty sure that Des Cullen car has been discussed over on www.octane.ie at some stage in the recent past.

I think the general feeling was that it's overpriced compared to bringing one in.

Also there is a black '04 one that possibly would be bought sub-€100k but it's a repo car so it's history could be a bit chequered.

The Des Cullen car is 2007 and is in the UK not in Dublin.

I called them a while back and they are looking alot for it.(cant remember exact price)

A black Gallardo does nothing for me..it has to be orange or yellow wink

I don't see the black one advertised?? It was for sale i n Cafco a while back from what I can remember..

Why not purchase a resaleable colour and then have it wraped in a colour to your liking?
Might save you a few quid or offer you more options.
Just a thought and good luck with hunt.

Fair enough s99ane..but...would you buy a Gallardo that had been wrapped?
I know I certainly would'nt. Would prefer to buy the original wink

Although, orange is quite rare..

I would have also thought that orange and yellows were more sought after than say black or blues? what u think?

Fair point. But if the spec you want isn't available at the right price then I still believe this is a viable option.
I know of quite a few new ferrari that have been wraped after leaving the show room. Owners have bought good ol resale red then wraped the car in a colour a bit more interesting.
